Ronald Araujo is once again a protagonist in the Barça market. Although, for the moment, the center-back does not seem interested in leaving, an offer in the order of €70M could change everything
The future of Ronald Araujo at FC Barcelona is once again generating uncertainty in the board and the coaching staff. Although the center-back renewed last January until 2031, keeping his termination clause intact (€1,000 million), his contract includes an 'escape route' that could be activated in the coming days.
During the first two weeks of the summer market, the Rivera native's release price drops to just 65 'kilos', a scenario that will gradually repeat itself in each transfer window, with an adjustment of €15M.
In January, during the winter market, the price of the 'charrúa' will be €80M, while in the summer of 2026 the amount rises to €95M. And so on for the next six years.
This clause allows the player to freely negotiate his departure, as long as Barça receives an offer in accordance with what was agreed. For now, Ronald does not seem interested in changing his mind, although he knows that his situation in 25/26 may be complex given the tough competition for a place in the back line.
Ronald Araujo's doubts about his continuity in Barcelona
Before the start of the pre-season, Araujo knows that both Pau Cubarsí and Iñigo Martínez will continue to be starters for Hansi Flick. The '2' is already the most valuable center-back in LaLiga (€80 'kilos'), while the Basque player returned to his best version in 24/25 thanks to the confidence of the German coach.
The '4', meanwhile, could once again be relegated to a secondary role. Last season, the Uruguayan was only able to return in October, after being injured with his national team in the Copa América. In total, he played 25 games (13 as a starter) in which he accumulated 1,560 minutes of action, with a couple of goals and assists.
Flick is still counting on him and considers him one of the leaders of the dressing room. However, if Iñigo and Cubarsí maintain the regularity of the previous year, it will be very difficult for the 26-year-old defender to regain his starting place.
In addition, the squad has Eric García and Andreas Christensen as alternatives in the back line. The Martorrel native should renew soon (his contract ends in 2026), while the Dane is also in his last year of contract and is considered a fixed discard, as long as the '4' does not leave.
In principle, the Dane should be the one sacrificed, considering that he is also in his last year of contract and, in addition, he has spent almost all of 24/25 in the infirmary due to various muscle problems. However, for the board, the possible transfer of Ronald, logically, would be much more profitable.
Barça, willing to cash in on Ronald Araujo for a high offer

And it is that, with the expense involved in the signings of Joan García (€25M) and Nico Williams (€58M), the club will be very short of cash. Although the club returns to the 1:1 rule, it needs to close an important sale to balance its accounts and Ronald Araujo could contribute a considerable sum.
In January, Barça was willing to let the 'charrúa' leave for 80 million euros. Now, his departure could be closed for 70 'kilos', a reasonable amount considering that the market value of the defender has fallen to €35M due to his poor performance in 24/25.
Bayern Munich, in 2024, wanted to sign the Rivera native paying €80M, but the club ruled out his departure. At the moment, Juventus is still the club most interested in his transfer, although the 'Vecchia signora' will hardly put more than 50 'kilos' on the table.
In England, Manchester United could also formally enter the bidding. For now, the defender is only thinking about getting physically fit to return to his best version.
