Teddy Sheringham believes Rashford does not deserve to play for Barça. However, the player has the 'OK' from the Catalan club, but his high salary is a problem

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Marcus Rashford is very excited about the idea of becoming the left winger for FC Barcelona. However, there are those who, far from Barça, question the possible arrival of the Englishman to the Catalan team, mainly because they believe he does not deserve such an opportunity.

In this sense, the emblematic former striker of Manchester United, Teddy Sheringham —who defended the 'red devils' shirt between 1997 and 2001— has made a series of statements to 'Sky News' suggesting that the English '10' does not deserve to play for Barça, because he did not capitalize on the time he had at United.

"If you evaluate Rashford's level as a professional footballer, as a young man you strive to reach the top and play for clubs like Manchester United, and once you're there, you value it. You don't waste it and say you want to leave. From my point of view, I think that if he leaves United for Barcelona, it's a step forward that he doesn't deserve," he pointed out.

Likewise, after 'hitting' him, he took the opportunity to advise him, emphasizing that he is still young (27 years old) and that he should concentrate on being a better player without blaming anyone for his current footballing moment in the English team.

These words, which probably will not be well received by the left winger, come at a time when rumors indicate that he has ground in his favor to end up landing in the Catalan capital during this summer transfer window.

Rashford's arrival at Barça is difficult, but not impossible: find out why

While the player has the approval of Barcelona's sporting management and coaching staff, the main obstacle to his arrival at Camp Barça is Manchester's economic demands and his high salary.

Thus, the 'red devils' would be demanding at least 40 million euros to accept a transfer; in addition, his salary is around 20 'kilos' annually, something that the Catalan club sees as very difficult to assume.

However, Barça would only see a loan without a mandatory purchase option as feasible, but before that Marcus Rashford would have to renew with United to reduce his emoluments by 25-30%, since the club considers it impossible to pay more than €4M to a loaned player.

This stance by Barcelona is mainly due to the excess in the salary margin, in addition to needing to meet the 1/1 rule to register new signings such as Joan García or Roony Bardghji.

Barcelona, Rashford's priority despite interest from Liverpool and Juventus

As expected, although the player's wish is to wear the Catalan shirt, he will still attract interest from other European giants. Thus, both Liverpool and Juventus would like to secure the player's services.

However, the Anfield Road team would only be internally studying the possibility of incorporating the '10', according to recent information, but the 'Vecchia Signora' would be willing to make the player a priority.

Despite this, Barça is the one who has everything to keep the player. Rashford is currently training separately from his Manchester United teammates, as he is not part of manager Rúben Amorim's plans and is reportedly negotiating the terms of his departure from Old Trafford.

Not having his incorporation secured will surely mean that the striker will have all fronts open for the 2025/26 season, just as Barça keeps other strikers in mind such as Luis Díaz, Ademola Lookman or Antonio Nusa..
