While Barça is moving for Joan García, Ter Stegen remains firm. Learn about his position and the possible duel in the goal

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Marc-André ter Stegen's future at FC Barcelona could take a 180-degree turn. With the increasingly close arrival of Joan García as the new Barça goalkeeper, the German goalkeeper's future would be undergoing a significant change, as it is expected that the goalkeeper from Sallent de Llobregat —for whom Barça would make a significant investment of €25M— will arrive to be the starter.

That would put Ter Stegen, who has a contract with the Barcelona team until June 30, 2028, in a serious predicament, and who knows that if he wants to be the starting goalkeeper for the German national team in the 2026 World Cup, he needs regularity at his club. A move of this type would clearly complicate his aspirations to maintain that starting position.

Ter Stegen insists: "I know I will continue at Barça next season"

However, despite all this, Ter Stegen does not seem to pay too much attention to the market rumors that link him away from the Barça club. He made this clear in his most recent appearance before the cameras of the German channel ZDF, remaining firm in his idea that he does not see himself outside of Barcelona.

"No one has spoken to me about this and it is always difficult to comment on everything. I know I will continue at Barça next season."

Statements practically identical to those he recently offered during the press conference prior to the match between Germany and Portugal, valid for the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League, where he did not hesitate to assure:

"No one has spoken to me about this, so I don't know the situation. I'm not worried about it. I know I will be at Barcelona next year."

These two statements only make it clear that Ter Stegen does not see himself, far from it, outside of FC Barcelona... at least for now.

Barça considers a goal with Joan García and Szczęsny: what about Ter Stegen?

It remains to be seen how the movements that are expected soon around the goal affect him: namely the official announcement of Joan García's arrival and the possible renewal of Szczęsny. All of this would leave 'MATS' in an uncertain position, especially when, for example, media such as Mundo Deportivo have speculated that the team from the Ciudad Condal is considering a pair of goalkeepers composed of the Catalan and the Pole, being first and second respectively.

From this, and in the event that it materializes, it will be necessary to weigh what the club's plans would be with Ter Stegen. It must be remembered that it has been commented that the German is of interest to a club in Saudi Arabia: Al-Hilal. No other interested team has been revealed for now, but if Barça put him on the market, offers would not be lacking.

Would the German prioritize a destination that keeps him in the elite or would he bet on a more economically lucrative environment? Only the transfer market will tell.
