Barça is starting to move pieces in its goal: Szczesny, after a convincing season, has decided to stay for one more year
Wojciech Szczesny will continue to be a goalkeeper for FC Barcelona, at least for one more season. This is according to the newspaper 'MARCA', which reports that the 35-year-old Polish goalkeeper has already communicated to Hansi Flick his decision to stay at the club during a meeting held at the Ciutat Esportiva. His link with the Blaugrana team would include one fixed season and another optional one.

It should be remembered that 'Tek's contract with the culé team ends on June 30. However, after a season in which the former Juventus player, once he regained competitive rhythm, proved that he can be a reliable alternative for the Barcelona goal, his continuity has become a real option. His performance helped to effectively alleviate the absence of Marc-André ter Stegen due to injury, leaving more than striking records.
| MATCHES PLAYED (MIN.) | GOALS CONCEDED | CLEAN SHEETS | TOTAL SAVES |

Szczesny: his key impact and renewal at Barcelona
With these data, it is not surprising that the club has offered him a renewal. Even so, the doubts about his continuity came from Szczesny himself, who never took it for granted that he would continue at Barça. From the beginning, he made it clear that he had come to fulfill a dream for one season and that, later, he would evaluate whether to hang up his gloves and dedicate himself to his family.
However, after a period of reflection, the Warsaw native has decided to continue for one more season as a Blaugrana player. Now we just have to wait for when the agreement will be made official, something that, given the proximity of the end of his contract, should not take too long. Likewise, his continuity begins to shape the panorama of the culé goal, where everything points to Ter Stegen returning to be the starter, with Szczesny as his replacement with guarantees.
'Tek' stays and Barça decides its next steps in the goal
However, the market could still be shaken if another goalkeeper arrives, as has been rumored in the case of Joan García (RCD Espanyol), who the club likes a lot. Other names have also been mentioned such as Bart Verbruggen (Brighton) or even Emiliano 'Dibu' Martínez (Aston Villa). Any unexpected movement could cause a domino effect, especially if the great unknown is specified: will Ter Stegen continue at Barça?
For now, the one who does seem to have his future clearer is Iñaki Peña, who could leave the club this summer in search of more prominence.
