Spain advanced to the Euro Cup final in Switzerland thanks to a goal from Barça Femení star, Aitana Bonmatí in extra time (1-0)
In a dramatic match at the Letzigrund in Zurich, which had to be decided in extra time, Spain sealed their qualification for the 2025 Women's Euro Cup final. Aitana Bonmatí, in the 113th minute, gave the team the victory against a very tough Germany (0-1).
With this, Montse Tomé's team will go next Sunday (18:00 CEST) for the title against the current champion of the tournament, England. The British eliminated Italy on Tuesday (2-1) also in an agonizing way, coming back in extra time.
Spain went from strength to weakness against Germany
The first minutes were complicated for La Roja. Buhl missed a one-on-one against Cata Coll in the 8th minute and Esther Espósito found a save from goalkeeper Berger in the 21st minute, in the first clear chance for Montse Tomé's team. Germany, however, created danger again with another one-on-one, this time wasted by Hoffmann.
Before the break, Spain unleashed a whirlwind in the rival area. Alexia Putellas came close to scoring with a shot that Dabritz slightly deflected, while Irene Paredes shook the crossbar with a header in the 42nd minute. At the last minute, Berger neutralized two very dangerous shots from Mariona Caldentey and Patri Guijarro.
Spain could not break the zero in regular time in Letzigrund
The team let loose just when Aitana Bonmatí took control of the ball, but the break came without the deserved goal. After the break, Germany created danger again on the left with Buhl, but Cata Coll shone to prevent her goal from falling.
The half-time break stopped La Roja's momentum, who only returned to the rival field after the 65th minute. Tomé sent Salma Paralluelo onto the field in place of Esther, who was already cautioned, along with Athenea del Castillo for Pina.
The minutes passed and, in added time, the Germans were very close to the 'golden goal', but Cata Coll, with an impressive double save, sent the match to extra time when Wamser, at point-blank range, seemed to sentence the match.
Aitana, Spain's heroine in extra time

In extra time, Montse Tomé's team felt the physical wear and tear, while Germany did damage on the flanks. However, Aitana Bonmatí, in the 113th minute, scored the qualifying goal with a remarkable finish, taking advantage of a pass from Athenea from the side to surprise Berger with a tight shot.
In this way, the tournament's top winner (8), Germany, was left at the gates of a new final, while Spain keeps alive the dream of doing the double with its first Euro Cup. In 2023, La Roja was crowned world champion in Australia.
