Lamine Yamal reveals his winning gene: "I can win many Ballons d'Or"

The Spanish journalist José Ramón de la Morena spoke with Lamine Yamal on his podcast 'Resonancia de Corazón', in a very personal chat where the '10' of FC Barcelona not only made it clear that he dreams of winning the Ballon d'Or 2025. For the Mataró native, the goal is to mark an era, just as Leo Messi did in the last two decades.

'La Pulga' is the top winner of the award given annually by 'France Football' (8), followed by Cristiano Ronaldo (5). In that sense, the 18-year-old winger is clear: he is not satisfied with winning it only this year.

"I told my friends, I don't dream of having one Ballon d'Or, I dream of having many", Lamine began by saying. The Barça youth player is, along with Ousmane Dembélé, the big favorite to win the 2025 edition, which will take place on September 22 in Paris.

In that sense, the Rocanfonda native is confident, beyond the possibility of winning the award this year or not, in his talent to aspire to several Ballon d'Ors in the medium and long term.

"I am a player who has the ability to do it. If I don't do it, it's because I haven't done things right or because I haven't wanted to", Yamal argued. In 24/25, with just 17 years old, the winger scored 18 goals and 23 assists in 55 games with Barça, being an undisputed starter in the team that won the domestic treble.

"I dream of having many and the day I get there I will be very happy, but I will want to keep winning more and winning with my team", the new '10' culé pointed out. 

For Lamine, whether in 2025 or 2026, there is still plenty of room to become the youngest footballer to win the highest award from 'France Football'. In 1997, the Brazilian Ronaldo Nazario won it at 21 years and 3 months, while Yamal can win it with just 18 years and 2 months.

A real madness. Even more considering that Leo Messi, when he won it in 2009, was 22 years and 5 months old. The curious thing is that both the Rosario native and the Brazilian won it with the Barcelona shirt, although Ronaldo had already signed for Inter Milan when he received the award.

Everything ready for the Ballon d'Or 2025 gala. Will Lamine win it?

In any case, everything is ready for the 2025 Ballon d'Or gala. The voting closed on August 25, almost a month before the gala that will take place at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Rodrigo Hernández won the previous edition, being the second Spaniard in history to win the award.

Previously, Luis Suárez (FC Barcelona) won it in 1960, while Rodri obtained it with the Manchester City shirt. Leo Messi, with the azulgrana team, won seven of his eight Ballon d'Ors, the last of them in 2021. Will Lamine Yamal be able to start a new era this year?
