Barça crushed Como (5-0) in the 60th edition of the Joan Gamper Trophy. The 'Culés' achieved their 47th title in the friendly competition with their second-largest victory since 2015.

FC Barcelona equaled their second-largest victory in the Joan Gamper Trophy in the last decade against Como 1907. The 'manita' against Cesc Fàbregas' team (5-0) emulated the victory in 2017 against Chapecoense of Brazil.

The South Americans fell by the same score thanks to goals scored by Gerard Deulofeu, Sergio Busquets, Leo Messi, Luis Suárez, and Denis Suárez. That edition, played at Spotify Camp Nou, was Ernesto Valverde's official home debut as 'Culé' coach.

Just like this year, in just 28 minutes the match was settled with a 3-0 partial score. Against Como, the third goal for Hansi Flick's team fell in the 35th minute, courtesy of Raphinha. The initial brace from Fermín López and another pair from Lamine Yamal completed the thrashing against the Italians.

Barça was one goal away from equaling their biggest victory in the Gamper since 2015

In that sense, the 'Azulgrana' team was just one goal away from equaling their victory against Pumas of Mexico. In the 2022 edition, the first with Xavi Hernández on the bench, Barça crushed the team from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (6-0) with goals from Robert Lewandowski, Pedri (double), Ousmane Dembélé, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Frenkie de Jong.

That ended up being the farewell for the Gabonese player and the home debut for 'Lewy'. That season, 22/23, the 'Culés' won LaLiga and the Spanish Super Cup.

The other significant victories for the Catalans in the last decade were 3-0 against Boca Juniors of Argentina and Juventus, in 2018 and 2021, respectively. The triumph against the 'Vecchia Signora' also took place at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, which this year repeated as the home of the traditional friendly match.

The thrashing against Como also allowed two of the 'Culés' stars to add their first official goals in the Joan Gamper Trophy. Both Lamine Yamal and Raphinha closed the 'Azulgrana' 'manita', the '10' scoring twice.

Neither the one from Mataró nor the Brazilian had managed to shake the nets in their previous performances. Lamine had only given one assist in the 2023 edition, against Tottenham (4-2), while Rafa had also served the first goal in the victory against the 'Spurs'.

Fermín López, on the other hand, also inaugurated his scoring record in the Gamper thanks to the double scored in the first half against Como. Of the goalscorers against the Italians, only Ferran Torres had shaken the nets before.

The 'Shark' scored the partial equalizer against Tottenham, in a match that Barça was losing 1-2 with ten minutes left. Against the Italians, the process was reminiscent of the 2022 edition, against Pumas, although the Mexicans were already losing 4-0 in just 19 minutes.
