FC Barcelona hosts Osasuna this Saturday, December 13 (6:30 PM CEST) for matchday 16 of LaLiga, with Adrián Cordero Vega as the referee. The Cantabrian official was appointed by the Referees Technical Committee (CTA) along with Carlos del Cerro Grande (VAR).

This season, Cordero Vega has refereed 8 matches, two of them for the Navarrese team. The 'rojillos' lost to Real Madrid (1-0) on matchday 1 and, later, drew with Elche in Pamplona (1-1) on matchday 6, with the referee from Santander as the main official. In total, the referee officiated 15 Osasuna matches, with 6 wins, 6 draws, and 3 losses for the Navarrese team.

In the 25/26 season, the 41-year-old referee, with LaLiga experience since 18/19, but with a brief stint in the Second Division between 2022 and 2024, will officiate his first Barça match this season. Last season, the Catalans had the Cantabrian referee on two occasions, with mixed results.

How has Barça fared in matches officiated by Cordero Vega?

Cordero Vega refereed Barcelona's two matches against Unión Deportiva Las Palmas last season. On matchday 15, the Blaugrana team lost to the Canaries at Montjuïc (1-2) with goals from Sandro Ramírez and Fábio Silva.

Raphinha had scored the temporary equalizer in the second half of a match that had two potential penalties not called on Pau Cubarsí and Pau Víctor. That was the first official home defeat for Hansi Flick as Barça coach.

Then, on matchday 25, Barça avenged that defeat with a win in Gran Canaria (0-2). Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres scored the goals in a hard-fought victory, in a match where the referee from Cantabria also overlooked a red card for Álex Muñoz for a very harsh stomp on Lamine Yamal.

The Barça winger ended with his left foot bloodied, but fortunately, he did not suffer any injuries. His VAR assistant this Saturday, Del Cerro Grande, also has a worrying history of controversial decisions detrimental to the Catalans, such as the disallowed goal by Lewandowski against Real Sociedad last season.

Barça's record in matches refereed by Adrián Cordero Vega:

  1. Games: 5
  2. Wins: 4
  3. Draws: 0
  4. Losses: 1

Barcelona seeks to extend streak and pull away in LaLiga lead

This Saturday, Barcelona seeks its seventh consecutive victory in LaLiga against Osasuna, which would equal its second-best streak in the tournament since Hansi Flick's arrival. Furthermore, the Catalans can further extend their lead at the top, which is currently 4 points over Real Madrid.

Barça is coming off victories against Elche (3-1), Celta (2-4), Athletic (4-0), Alavés (3-1), Atlético (3-1), and Betis (3-5), going from being 5 points behind Madrid in early November to enjoying a 4-point lead with two matchdays left before the Christmas and New Year break.

Osasuna, for their part, recently ended a six-game winless streak on Monday with their victory over **Levante** (2-0) and, for now, occupy fifteenth place in the standings with 15 points, 25 less than Barça (40). On their last visit to Catalonia, the 'rojillos' were thrashed in Montjuïc (3-0) with goals from Ferran, Olmo, and Lewandowski.
