FC Barcelona was unable to celebrate its 125th anniversary as the occasion deserves, as it was defeated at home and remains without a win in LaLiga

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Barça's sporting crisis continues, even on a day of celebration. Despite the victory against Brest, which seems to have been a mirage, the culés did not find the strength to get back to three points in the league. Las Palmas put in a great performance and went ahead with a goal from Sandro. Raphinha tied the match and Fábio Silva sealed the final result on the scoreboard.

FC Barcelona faced its first match after the 125th anniversary. It was a day of firsts, as L' escut al pit was played for the first time, while Cat, the new mascot, danced it in what was also his debut. For their part, the culés players wore a commemorative badge on their shirts and white pants, the latter in honor of the club's first kit.

In terms of sport, two teams faced each other with a similar style: very high pressure, advanced defense and good ball handling. This was evident on the pitch, as Las Palmas were very brave at the start. The first chance came in the 6th minute, with a through ball from Pablo Torre to Fermin, who was left alone against Cillessen and finished with a low shot that was too centred, so the Dutch goalkeeper rejected it.

As the minutes went by, the match was very even. The attitude of the Gran Canaria team was unbeatable, managing to stand up to Barça. As for the approaches, they were more from the culés, although without much precision. The visitors, for their part, did not know how to avoid the offside trap that the Blaugrana defence constantly set.

The clearest chance for Las Palmas came after half an hour of play. Moleiro, the beacon of attack for his team, opened a ball to the wing. Javi Muñoz arrived on the run, who made a cross-shot that went just wide.

On the stroke of half-time, Barça had two consecutive chances with which they were close to opening the scoring. The first, a shot from the edge of the box by Pedri, who faced his former team for the first time, was blocked by Cillessen. The second, an individual play by Raphinha in which, after two dribbles, he shot violently against the crossbar and the ball went over the edge of the pitch.

At the restart of the match, Las Palmas struck first. An excellent ball-breaking by the visitors ended with a perfect pass from Kirian to Sandro. The former Barça player received the ball on the right and launched an unstoppable cross shot for Iñaki Peña. Despite his past as a Blaugrana, Ramírez did not hesitate to celebrate his goal.

Just after the hour mark, Barça smiled again. Raphinha received the ball on the edge of the area, gained space with a feint and shot with power, sending the ball into the back of the net. With this low shot, he brought the score back to level.

However, the joy of the Catalans was short-lived. Ferrán shot from the edge of the box and made Cillessen fly to clear it. In the next play, Álex Muñoz, with his less skilled leg, placed a great pass behind the Barça defence. Fábio Silva guided the ball with his head and unbalanced the score with a cross shot.

The Blaugrana locomotive applied a higher gear and generated drastic harassment on its rival. In the 70th minute, Lamine shot first time from the edge of the area after a pass from Lewandowski. As a result of the placement of the shot, the visiting goalkeeper had to make a great stretch to thwart the chance.

Just after the last ten minutes, Raphinha came close to scoring with a free kick from the edge of the area. The ball was aimed at the top left corner, but Cillessen, clearly the best player on his team, saved Las Palmas again.

No matter how hard FC Barcelona tried, they were unable to force the barrier that their opponents had formed around the area. There were chances, but none of them were able to intimidate the visiting goalkeeper again. Thus, the third defeat for the Catalans in LaLiga was sealed, the first at home. For their part, the Gran Canaria team conquered the Blaugrana home ground for the first time in 53 years.
