FC Barcelona now has the long-awaited Completion Certificate. If the City Council gives the OK, the match on September 21 against Getafe could be played at the Spotify Camp Nou

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Fútbol Club Barcelona received this Monday the completion certificate for the Camp Nou. Once the procedure has been completed, only the authorization of the City Council is needed for the match on September 21 against Getafe to be played in the new Azulgrana coliseum.

The Completion Certificate (CFO) of the Spotify Camp Nou allows the club to directly process with the City Council the first occupancy license that will allow the Estadi to be reopened with a partial capacity of 27,000 spectators.

In principle, the club hopes to receive a response this week, which keeps open the possibility of playing matchday 7 of LaLiga, against Real Sociedad on Sunday the 28th (9:00 PM CEST) back in Les Corts. What is becoming increasingly difficult is playing against Getafe at the culé temple on Sunday the 21st.

The Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium is ruled out, as after the Post Malone concert there is no margin to adapt the facility. So, if bureaucracy complicates the plans to reopen the Camp Nou, the club must look for immediate solutions.

The Johan Cruyff, the only viable alternative

In the victory against Valencia, 5,862 fans attended the Johan Cruyff, of which 4,005 were Azulgrana members. Despite its limited capacity, the club considers that if necessary it would be the most viable option to receive José Bordalás' team.

Vice President Elena Fort already warned on TV3 that the administrative deadlines could prevent the return to the Camp Nou on this matchday. If confirmed, the Johan would repeat as the provisional home of the first men's team.

Getafe and Real Sociedad, next commitments

The scenario of the match against Getafe is not the only question mark. On September 28, Barça will receive Real Sociedad, a match that could also be played at the Johan Cruyff if the Camp Nou works do not yet have definitive approval.

The situation also affects the planning of Barça Women. The match of matchday 5 of Liga F against Espanyol, initially set for September 27, appears with an asterisk on the calendar. The club has warned that it could be moved from day and time to accommodate the match of the first men's team.

A long-awaited return to the Camp Nou

Phase 1A of the Camp Nou works was to be completed in September, but the certification process has delayed the reopening. The team's return to the stadium is perceived as a strategic move, not only in sporting terms but also in institutional and economic terms.

Meanwhile, the fans may have to adapt, again, to a reduced capacity, far from the more than 90,000 usual seats of the Camp Nou. The uncertainty adds expectation to each official announcement about the progress of the works.

What's coming for Barça before the second FIFA break

The calendar offers no respite. After the match against Getafe, Hansi Flick's team will face highly demanding commitments in the Champions League and in LaLiga. Resolving the stadium issue as soon as possible has become a priority for the Catalan club.

We will have to be attentive to the evolution of the decision by the Barcelona City Council. Meanwhile, the Johan Cruyff could become the provisional home of the Azulgranas while the long-awaited return to the Spotify Camp Nou is finalized.
