Who was the best? And the worst? The definitive analysis of Flick's Barça championship

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona were crowned champions of LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25 with two games to spare thanks to their victory in the Catalan derby against Espanyol (0-2). The team managed by Hansi Flick was, by far, the best in the tournament, winning at least one match against 18 of their 19 rivals, leading in wins (27) and goals scored (97).

In that regard, the Culé squad did a fantastic job. Despite injuries in the initial phase, pressure from LaLiga due to the controversy surrounding the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Vítor, along with the scandalous refereeing assistance to Real Madrid in the last Clásico and other key matches of the season, the team managed to secure the championship.

With an attractive, ultra-offensive, and very risky style of play due to their high defensive line, Barça led for 25 of the 38 matchdays played, momentarily losing the top spot between matchday 15 and 24.

Individually, most of the squad responded to Flick's confidence, with very high marks, especially in attack. Next, we review the player-by-player ratings of the Azulgrana team in LaLiga 24/25.

🥅Barça's Goalkeeper Ratings in LaLiga

Wojciech Szczesny: savior (7.5 points)

The Pole secured the starting spot in January and restored calm to the Azulgrana goal after a first half of LaLiga in which the team lost 5 matches, 3 of them in a row. 'Tek' earned the trust of Flick and the team thanks to his experience and has 8 clean sheets in 15 appearances, conceding 12 goals.

Iñaki Peña: substitute (6 points)

The Alicante native was once again chosen to replace Ter Stegen after the German's serious injury and, in the first half of the season, performed at an acceptable level. However, he lacked the leadership to instill calm in such a high defensive line. In 15 matchdays, he only managed to keep a clean sheet on 4 occasions, conceding 18 goals.

Ter Stegen: injured (not rated)

The captain suffered a serious injury on matchday 6 and only returned in the final stretch of the season. In the 7 matches he has played so far, he conceded 6 goals and had only one clean sheet (against Valladolid in the 7-0 thrashing).

📝How Barça's Defenders Fared in LaLiga

Jules Koundé: established (8 points)

The Frenchman became the best right-back in the world, playing practically everything until his injury in the Copa final. Koundé was the best partner for Lamine Yamal in attack, without neglecting his defensive duties. Not since Dani Alves has a defender shown a similar level on the right flank.

Pau Cubarsí: stellar (8.5 points)

The 18-year-old defender confirmed the fantastic impressions he made in his debut season, forming a stellar partnership with Iñigo Martínez from start to finish. Always confident on the ball, impeccable in one-on-one duels, and very solid in the air, Cubarsí is, without a doubt, the center-back with the best potential in Spanish football.

Iñigo Martínez: leader (8 points)

The Basque put three inconsistent seasons due to physical problems and a debut year where he lacked confidence in Barcelona behind him. Since Flick's arrival, Iñigo became the leader of the defense, covering for Cubarsí and Balde. In the face of injuries to Araujo and Christensen, the '5' responded with character and quality to be the best center-back in the tournament.

Alejandro Balde: wing-back (7.5 points)

The '3' was the defender with the most assists for the team in LaLiga (4) alongside Iñigo despite missing a month of competition due to an injury at Butarque. His speed has made him a true wing-back, always active in the opponent's half and with the ability to quickly return to his position when the team is caught on counter-attacks.

Eric García: indispensable (7 points)

Every team aspiring to win everything in a season needs a player like Eric. The Martorell native was practically an 'all-rounder' for Flick, plugging gaps in defense and midfield when injuries hit Barça. In attack, he always created danger when he went up for crosses, scoring several great goals. He started as a pivot and ended up as the right-back due to Koundé's absence.

Ronald Araujo: questioned (6 points)

The Uruguayan missed the first three months of the season due to injury and, after his return, never reached the level shown by Iñigo and Cubarsí. Despite having renewed his contract in January, he is one of the players who could leave in the next summer transfer window, although he remains one of Barcelona's captains and key figures.

Gerard Martín: timely (6.5 points)

Gerard received a lot of criticism in the first half of the season, but he stepped up in 2025 in Balde's absence. The '35' improved a lot in his marking and also showed plenty of talent to help in attack, with very timely assists that gave Flick peace of mind in the final stretch of 24/25.

Héctor Fort: substitute (5 points)

Fort was the only defender on the team who lacked opportunities to fight for a spot. Koundé played almost everything until his injury, and when the Frenchman was sidelined, Eric García took over the right flank. For the summer, he is expected to be a definite departure.

Andreas Christensen: injured (not rated)

The Dane, like Ter Stegen, spent practically the entire season in the infirmary. He returned in the last month of competition, showing his quality and experience in the two matches that gave Barça the title. In the second half of El Clásico, he came on very well to mend a completely broken defense. Against Espanyol, he was booked but had a good game.

📌The Midfield, the Engine of Flick's Barça

Pedri González: MVP (10 points)

Pedri, during El Clásico against Real Madrid (4-3)
Pedri, during El Clásico against Real Madrid (4-3)

The best midfielder in the world and, by far, the best player in LaLiga 24/25. Flick's Barça plays to the rhythm set by Pedri, the conductor of an absolutely vertical team. The Canary Islander has shown a superlative version, omnipresent all over the pitch to recover the ball, help the team play out from the back, and change an opponent's rhythm when it's time to dominate rivals.

Frenkie de Jong: pivot (7.5 points)

The Dutchman struggled to regain competitive rhythm in the first part of the season, but he stepped up in 2025. Frenkie returned to the brilliant version that amazed Europe in 2019, being a very efficient pivot thanks to Pedri's support. The '21' struggles when he has to play as the sole '5', but shows his best version when accompanied by another 'playmaker'.

Dani Olmo: star player (8 points)

The star signing of 24/25 responded with goals (9) and assists (3) despite missing several matches due to physical problems. As an attacking midfielder, he is the ideal partner for the Azulgrana attacking trident, always alert to the possibility of scoring or assisting.

Fermín López: inspired (7.5 points)

The Huelva native alternated prominence with Olmo and, although the Terrassa native ended up as a starter, Fermín remains a regular and very valuable substitute for Flick. His quality and shooting ability are notable, as is his attitude of lending a hand whenever the coach calls on him.

Gavi: imprecise (6.5 points)

He struggled to regain competitive rhythm after his serious injury in 2023, although by the end of 2024 he seemed to be settling into the Culé XI. In recent months, Fermín and Olmo relegated him to the bench, but he remains a very valuable piece for the squad.

Pablo Torre: marginalized (6 points)

The Cantabrian was one of the sacrifices in a squad full of attacking talent. Although he played very little, he contributed 3 goals and 1 assist in LaLiga. Due to the 'overbooking' of midfielders, he is destined to leave in the summer.

Marc Casadó: essential (7.5 points)

After Bernal's injury and with Frenkie unavailable, he became the ideal partner for Pedri in the first half of the season. Always organized, confident on the ball, and attentive in covering spaces, Casadó is already one of the best midfielders in Europe.

Marc Bernal: injured (not rated)

The 17-year-old earned the pivot spot at the start of the season, but a serious injury sent him to surgery after matchday 3. His return in the summer will be a luxury reinforcement for 24/25.

⚽Barcelona's Forwards Did an Incredible Job, with One Exception

Lamine Yamal: magical (9.5 points)

A great team always needs a magical, game-changing player, and in Flick's Barça, Lamine Yamal has been the standout figure throughout the season. The Mataró native is already, at 17, the best forward in the world, with unparalleled speed, dribbling, and shooting ability on the planet. Although he scored few goals (8), he led in assists (13) and was a key figure in the tournament's crucial matches.

Raphinha: stellar (9 points)

The Brazilian is joint leader, alongside Lewandowski, in direct goal involvements (27) in the tournament, after completing his best professional season. In the last two months of the season, he had a significant dip, but always contributed with goals and/or assists in big games.

Robert Lewandowski: Pichichi (8.5 points)

The Pole was once again the 'killer' he always is, reaching 40 goals for the first time since joining the club. Although he had some very quiet matches, he showed his class in big games and linked up very well with Lamine and Raphinha. He still has a chance to fight for LaLiga's Pichichi, with 25 goals.

Ferran Torres: timely (8 points)

The 'Shark' always responded as Lewandowski's substitute, completing his best season with a total of 18 goals (10 in LaLiga). Although many considered him a definite departure, even in the last winter transfer window, the '7' silenced critics with stellar performances in key matches.

Pau Vítor: substitute (6 points)

The forward did what he could in the few opportunities he had. Despite a great preseason, the presence of Lewandowski and Ferran closed the doors to the XI for him. He is another definite departure for 24/25, probably on loan.

Ansu Fati: disappeared (3 points)

The Bissau-Guinean was the only player in the squad who contributed absolutely nothing as a substitute or game-changer. Some physical problems prevented him from finding his rhythm in the first part of the season. However, in 2025, his tantrums about having little to no part in Flick's plans marginalized him from the team, although he did get minutes in a couple of matches in the final stretch. For the summer, he is a real headache due to his high salary and lack of offers.
