Barça maintained their LaLiga lead thanks to another victory at Spotify Camp Nou, this time against Oviedo (3-0). Dani Olmo, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal scored the goals for the Catalan giants' rout

Calendar of FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona remains the sole leader of LaLiga EA Sports 2025-26. On Sunday, the Blaugrana side secured their tenth consecutive home victory in the tournament, this time against Real Oviedo (3-0) to maintain their one-point lead over Real Madrid. The Catalans grew into the game, eventually thrashing the bottom-placed team with goals from Dani Olmo, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal.

Hansi Flick made several adjustments to his lineup, with Joao Cancelo as left-back and Marc Casadó returning to the midfield alongside Frenkie de Jong and Dani Olmo. Barça struggled to break through Oviedo's defensive wall, with crosses from Lamine Yamal, Olmo, and Cancelo being the best offensive weapons for the Culés before the break.

After a goalless and fairly balanced first half, Oviedo's defensive errors opened the door for two Barça goals in five minutes. Dani Olmo and Raphinha punished blatant mistakes by the Asturian center-backs, Carmo and Costas, to pave the way for a comfortable Blaugrana victory.

With the win, Flick's men retain the LaLiga lead in matchday 21 with 52 points, one more than Real Madrid (51). In the next round, Barça visits Elche (Saturday), while the 'Casa Blanca' will host Rayo (Sunday).

An uncomfortable and goalless first half for Barça

Oviedo surprised Barcelona with effective high pressing, stifling the clean build-up from the Culé center-backs and maintaining a constant double-mark on Lamine Yamal and Raphinha. Hassan, on the right, was a headache for Cancelo and, in the 9th minute, forced a yellow card for Gerard Martín after a trip.

After a very fragmented opening fifteen minutes with no clear chances, a cross from Casadó came close to finding Robert Lewandowski inside the box, but the Pole was a second too late for an acrobatic finish. The '9' had a couple more chances from Lamine and Eric García's crosses but failed to get a comfortable shot on target.

Raphinha, just before the break, had Barça's best chance of the first half. The '11' struck a bouncing volley from a chest-high pass by Lamine, but Aarón Escandell prevented the goal with a great save. Joan García also had to appear a couple of times to handle shots from Hassan, both held by the Sallent native without giving away a rebound.

At halftime, Hansi Flick brought on Jules Koundé in place of the cautioned Gerard Martín. With this move, Eric moved to the center of the defense alongside Cubarsí. Raphinha, with a corner from the right, nearly assisted Lewandowski, but Barça continued to have trouble finding spaces and maintaining effective circulation after long spells of possession.

However, in the 51st minute, a mistake in Oviedo's build-up following intelligent pressure from Lamine Yamal led to the opening goal. The '10' blocked David Carmo's long ball and, after a high rebound, played it to his right with help from Raphinha, where Dani Olmo appeared to finish first-time with a precise shot, unreachable for Aarón Escandell.

Six minutes later, in the 57th, Raphinha pressured David Costas and, after a very short back-pass to Escandell, the '11' found himself alone against the Spanish goalkeeper, delicately chipping the ball to leave the Asturian team's keeper with no options.

Defensive errors broke the deadlock in a very uncomfortable match for Barça, resolved thanks to the clinical finishing of two of their players in top form. Dani now has 6 league goals, while Rapha reached 8 in the tournament. With the match almost settled, Flick brought on Alejandro Balde and Fermín López for Cancelo and Raphinha.

Lamine Yamal rounded off the rout with an acrobatic finish

Lamine came close to a third in the 61st minute with a powerful left-footed strike that Escandell tipped for a corner with a great save. The rout seemed imminent, but Oviedo managed to regroup defensively after a couple of substitutions. Nonetheless, in the 73rd minute, Yamal finally got to celebrate his goal with an acrobatic finish, capitalizing on a mid-height cross from Olmo.

The '10' finished with a scissor kick, placing the ball at the far post to leave Aarón with no chance. Immediately after, Marc Bernal replaced Dani Olmo, who left with a goal and an assist to loud applause from the Spotify Camp Nou crowd. Even louder was the ovation for Lamine Yamal, replaced in the 77th minute by Roony Bardghji.

Barça now turns its focus to the clash against Copenhagen next Wednesday (21:00 CET) for the final matchday of the Champions League group stage. A Culé victory will almost certainly secure direct qualification to the round of 16, Flick's team's first European objective of the season.
