FC Barcelona closed the registration of Wojciech Szczesny in LaLiga this Saturday. However, the Pole has not been included in the squad for the duel against Alavés

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Wojciech Szczesny is already registered in LaLiga. The Pole just started training under the orders of Hansi Flick on Thursday and, this Saturday, FC Barcelona closed his registration after having validated the long-term absence of Marc-André ter Stegen before the employers. The former Juventus goalkeeper will wear the number '25', but was ultimately not included in the squad for the duel against Alavés, this Sunday in Vitoria (16:15 CEST).

The one from Warsaw has made a pleasant impression in his first training sessions, with excellent physical shape despite having retired last June, at the end of Poland's participation in the Euro Cup. However, Hansi Flick did not count on him for the visit to Mendizorroza, which means that Iñaki Peña's ownership is assured for Sunday. After the break, the story could be totally different.

Barça had no problems registering Szczesny

Regarding his registration, everything was resolved without a hitch in the Barça offices, since the club had 80% of Ter Stegen's transfer to incorporate another player before October 22, the day that marks one month since the serious injury suffered by the German goalkeeper. Szczesny signed for a single season, until June 30, 2025, at a rate of €3 million net (€1.5M gross).

Thus, the Polish international's official debut will have to wait at least two more weeks, until next October 20. Barça will host Sevilla in Montjuïc in the first game after the break, an ideal scenario for the '25' to begin to win over the culé fans and add the necessary minutes to reach his physical limit.

If all goes well, it is very likely that Wojciech will start in both the League and the Champions League, although Iñaki Peña is by no means ruled out fighting for a place in the XI. Flick guaranteed the Alicante player prominence as long as he performs at his best, so it would not be unreasonable to see Barça with a scenario similar to that of a decade ago, with Claudio Bravo and Ter Stegen sharing ownership between the League (the Chilean), the Copa del Rey and Champions (the German one).
