Almost three months passed since the last match of FC Barcelona in the 2024/25 season, at San Mamés against Athletic. On Sunday, May 25, Hansi Flick's team closed a fantastic League with a thrashing (0-3) to reach 88 points and exceed the barrier of one hundred goals in favor (102) for the first time in eight years.
Well, on Saturday in Mallorca, a new season began and few things changed in Barça since then. The team jumped onto the Son Moix pitch wearing their third kit from the previous year, by imposition of LaLiga, because the second kit chosen for this year coincides with the color of the 'bermellón' team's pants (black).
Although they could not wear the 'black mamba' line shirt, Barça went to Palma with a 100% winning mentality and, in just 23 minutes, already had the result in their pocket thanks to goals from Raphinha and Ferran Torres. Afterwards, with the expulsions in the local team, the pace slowed down, but the match was already decided before half-time.
Barça only needs to walk at half-machine to continue thrashing in LaLiga
Hansi Flick criticized the Blaugrana's collective slump after the match, as the coach does not like to see his players walking at half-machine. However, understanding the context of the match (first day, with intense heat and a rival with their arms down) and the superiority on the field, Barça only needed to walk with the brake on to add another thrashing.
The fourth consecutive of the summer, considering the victories against Seoul (3-7), Daegu (0-5) and Como (5-0), also maintaining a scoring average of 4.6 goals per game since returning to work in mid-July.
In 24/25, the culés averaged 2.9 goals per game in all competitions. In La Liga, the average was 2.68, with thrashings being a hallmark of Flick's team. Hence, beyond the slump in the complement, there is nothing to worry about for now.
Flick continues in his own way: maximum demand and brutal competition for a place in the XI
The Blaugrana team is a lethal machine in attack, while in the center of the field the competition is brutal for a position after the imminent return of Marc Bernal and the good moment of Gavi.
The defense, although suffering the sensitive loss of Iñigo Martínez, also has enough troops in each demarcation, with Eric García and Andreas Christensen ready to lend a hand in alternative roles, while the youth player Jofre Torrents is pushing hard for a place as a substitute for Alejandro Balde.
And, in attack, the sensations are excellent with the signings of Marcus Rashford and Roony Bardghji, two pieces that arrive with the aim of giving a break to Raphinha and Lamine Yamal with the offensive production. The same happens with Ferran Torres, the '9' substitute of a Robert Lewandowski who could end up occupying a secondary role this season if he neglects his records.
As things stand: FC Barcelona is shaping up as a great favorite to revalidate the League title and go for all the trophies at stake in 2026. The coaching staff, meanwhile, does not lower its guard with the demand on a squad full of talent, but still young and with room for improvement, especially at the back. With Joan García in goal, there will be more security to receive fewer goals.
