Strike at Mediapro: Are the key matches of LaLiga 2024/25 in danger?
Important news has recently been announced regarding the television broadcast of the last matchdays of LaLiga EA Sports 2024/25. The CGT union (General Confederation of Labor) has announced its intention to call a strike at Mediapro, the current television operator of LaLiga, during the final three dates of the championship.
Why is the strike being called at Mediapro?
According to the CGT, the call responds to the lack of labor guarantees after the change of television operator for the next season. "Right now, the 800 jobs needed to broadcast LaLiga next season are not guaranteed," the statement said.

It should be remembered that LaLiga recently decided to change operators, leaving behind its relationship with Mediapro - with whom it had worked for years - to sign a new agreement with the telecommunications company Host Broadcast Services (HBS) for the next five seasons. Telefónica will act as an intermediate operator in the production of the First and Second Division matches.
Union complaint: abandonment and job insecurity
The CGT denounces that, a few days before the end of the 2024/25 season, HBS has not taken measures to subrogate the current payroll: "HBS has not lifted a finger to subrogate the staff, abandoning 800 workers and their families."
In turn, the union exposes the complicated situation of the sector, stressing that "it is a sector that is already very precarious. Currently, there are camera operators charging exactly the same as 20 years ago."
Demands of the CGT union
Among the main demands raised by the trade union movement, the following stand out:
- Transformation of temporary contracts into permanent ones, putting an end to structural precariousness.
- Full recognition of seniority from the first contract.
- Total guarantee of job continuity, either via subrogation or other legal mechanism.
- Maintenance of all current working conditions: salaries, categories, professional and extra-statutory agreements.

The CGT statement concludes with a forceful message: "Football as a business survives thanks to exploitation: if there are no labor rights, there will be no retransmission!"
Mediapro's version
From Mediapro, as reported in 'Mundo Deportivo', they have clarified that the strike is not directed against the company, but responds to the concern of workers for their job continuity with the new operator. The company has stated that it will do everything possible to ensure that professionals are calm regarding the subrogation of their jobs and has expressed its willingness to adopt all necessary measures to ensure that the strike is called off.
In the event that the strike goes ahead, Mediapro is committed to minimizing its impact and ensuring social peace and the continuity of all jobs.
LaLiga's position
For its part, LaLiga has indicated - as commented in 'MD' - that it faces this situation with tranquility and calm, despite the statements of the workers' collective. The organization is confident that the matches of the last three matchdays, crucial for the final classification, will be broadcast normally.
What FC Barcelona matches might not be televised if this strike occurs?
In the event that the strike called by CGT at Mediapro materializes and affects television production, these would be the commitments of FC Barcelona that might not be broadcast:
- RCD Espanyol - FC Barcelona | matchday 36 of LaLiga EA Sports
- FC Barcelona - Villarreal CF | matchday 37 of LaLiga EA Sports
- Athletic Club - FC Barcelona | matchday 38 of LaLiga EA Sports
All of them high-tension and important duels in the outcome of LaLiga 2024/25.
