Comment from the VAR to the referee in the Athletic-Madrid game has set the social networks on fire

Real Madrid's defeat at San Mamés (2-1) has left us with a totally unexpected refereeing controversy. The publication of the audios of the match has revealed a comment from the VAR that has outraged the fans, causing a flood of criticism on the main social networks.

In the 13th minute, the VAR warned Sánchez Martínez, the main referee of the match, to look at a possible penalty by Athletic player Gorosabel on Real Madrid player Rodrygo. The Murcian referee reviewed the play and considered that it was not punishable and therefore, there was no goal by Kylian Mbappé due to offside.

However, as soon as the audio of the conversation between the two referees was made public, a storm of criticism was unleashed against Figueroa Vázquez, the VAR referee. The controversial phrase 'he doesn't touch the ball' set fire to some networks that understood that this statement was out of place and that the images also refuted it.

In the audio, the VAR referee can be heard saying: "José María, I recommend that you come and see a potential penalty," and then adds "he never touches the ball." A statement that is not correct and that the images also confirm is absolutely false since it is clearly seen how the Athletic player hits the ball and it even changes direction. Finally, he tells the referee that "the offside (of Mbappé) is clear." After evaluating the play, Sánchez Martínez did not award a penalty or a goal for offside.
