Will the 'curse' be broken? The data that threatens Barça in La Liga after debuting in Mallorca

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Statistics are meant to be broken. The beginning of FC Barcelona in LaLiga EA Sports 25/26 was unbeatable, with a resounding victory against Mallorca at Son Moix (0-3). However, there is a fact that turns the Mallorcan venue into the terror of the teams that aspire to the league title.

However, the league debut in Mallorca hides a 'curse' that the Blaugrana team must try to break in 25/26. In 15 previous editions of the Spanish First Division, no team that debuts as a visitor of the Balearic team has managed to win the title.

The 'Bermellones' have been in the highest category of Spanish football for 21 seasons, with 25/26 being their twenty-second campaign in the First Division. In total, 15 teams premiered in Palma. None managed to lift the title, warns the statistician 'Míster Chip'. The last one, Real Madrid, who debuted in 24/25 with a draw at Son Moix (1-1).

Mallorca had drawn four consecutive games in the opening match

RCD Mallorca has become a difficult opponent in their first game. In the last four presentations they have had on the opening day of LaLiga, they had ended in a draw. Of course, until their debut with Barça in 25/26.

Since their return to the highest category of Spanish football in the 2021-2022 season, the Balearic team had managed to add at least one point in each opening match until this summer.

In 21/22 they received Betis (1-1), in 22/23 they visited Athletic Club in San Mamés (0-0), in 23/24 they repeated the draw, this time against Las Palmas in Gran Canaria (1-1) and in the previous season they received Real Madrid (1-1), who also started the defense of the title.

Barça demonstrated the ability to end RCD Mallorca's unbeaten streak in opening matches. Now it will be their turn to consolidate from here until the end of the season if they can break the other curse imposed by the 'Bermellón' club regarding the league title.

Barça sets its sights on Levante: going for another victory

This start to the season for the 'Blaugrana' club has been very particular, as they must play 3 consecutive matches away from home. After thrashing Mallorca, they must travel to Valencia to face Levante at the 'Estadio Ciudad de Valencia' next Saturday, August 23rd.

Barça will visit Levante UD after 3 years. The last match between Valencians and Catalans was on April 10, 2022, when the 'Culé' club won away (2-3).

On that occasion, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Pedri and Luuk de Jong scored for the 'Azulgrana'. While the goals for the local team were scored by Gonzalo Melero and José Luis Morales, both from the penalty spot.
