FC Barcelona secured their fourth consecutive victory in LaLiga EA Sports on a perfect afternoon for Dani Olmo. Against Alavés (3-1), the Terrassa native scored the two goals that sealed the Blaugrana comeback, a result that allowed Hansi Flick's team to regain the lead, pending what happens on Sunday in the Girona-Real Madrid match (9:00 PM CEST).
Pablo Ibañez put the visiting team ahead before the first minute of the match, but Lamine Yamal equalized in the 8th minute. 18 minutes later, Olmo scored the second, taking advantage of a brilliant pass from Raphinha from the left, after a long ball from Gerard Martín to set up the Brazilian.
Dani was close to sealing his brace in the 70th minute, but missed the target on a cross from the flank by Koundé. In the third minute of added time, the '20' finally sealed the score, beating Sivera in a one-on-one after a through ball from Lamine to cap off a lethal Barça counter-attack
Olmo scores 3rd league goal and takes a step forward after Fermín's injury
For the 27-year-old player, the two goals against Alavés allowed him to reach 3 in LaLiga 25/26, where he also has a couple of assists in 12 appearances. Saturday's was, barely, the fourth game of the season in which Olmo completed the 90 minutes.
In this regard, the midfielder seems to be regaining the confidence lost in recent months, where Fermín López seems to have won his place in Flick's XI. With the Huelva-born player out for the next two weeks due to a soleus injury, Dani seems to be taking another step forward to re-establish himself in the Barça lineup.
So far, the Spanish international has played 16 of Barça's 19 games this season. However, he only started in 8 matches, including the clash against the Vitoria team. Barring any surprises, he will repeat in the starting XI next Tuesday against Atlético, also at Camp Nou.
On Saturday, in addition to his brace, he recovered 5 balls and created an equal number of scoring opportunities. He also **won 9 out of 15 individual duels (60%)** and, with the ball, had an 84% passing accuracy (43/51)
Flick, satisfied with Dani Olmo's awakening
In the post-match press conference, Hansi Flick praised Dani Olmo's performance, whom he considers a very talented player, although at times he lacks clarity in his decision-making on the field.
"Sometimes, he wants more and to take that next step before the first. He also overthinks things, I've told him. I tell him to enjoy the game because he's very good," argued the Barça coach.
Olmo, for his part, also praised Barça's reaction despite being surprised by an early goal. "The team handled the situation very well, we stuck to our plan. I think we dominated and in the end we managed to win," he told 'DAZN' at the end of the match.
Regarding his performance and goal-scoring "baptism" at Spotify Camp Nou, he added: "Very happy with the two goals, it's a dream come true to be able to play here, especially to score and help the team win". With his brace against Alavés, the Terrassa native has accumulated 15 goals and 9 assists in 55 games as a Culer.
