Real Madrid resolved a very tough match against a Getafe side that finished with nine players thanks to a lone goal from Mbappé (0-1). Nyom's sending-off in the 77th minute was key to the 'merengue' victory

Real Madrid suffered until the end to take a victory from the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez against Getafe (0-1). A goal from Kylian Mbappé in the 80th minute avoided another 'merengue' setback against a team of José Bordalás that, as usual, made the defeat expensive despite suffering two expulsions in the second half.

Madrid arrived at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez with the obligation to win in order to return to the first place in the league standings, after FC Barcelona's victory against Girona (2-1).

However, Xabi Alonso's team fell into the trap set by the 'azulón' side: a very difficult match, with multiple interruptions and on a field in poor condition. In the end, the expulsion of Allan Nyom tipped the balance in favor of the Whites.

Few chances and many stumbles in a lackluster first half in Madrid

The 'merengue' team dominated possession (76%) and completed up to 9 shots in the first 45 minutes, but most were inconsequential. Slips on an overly soft pitch, as well as fouls (19) were the main characteristic of a first half with very little football.

Kylian Mbappé had the clearest chance of the opening period in the 7th minute. The '10' had everything in his favor to finish off a lethal counterattack by Los Blancos, but his shot was not as precise as usual, and David Soria prevented the goal with a save with his foot.

Franco Mastantuono also arrived with danger in the area in the 32nd minute, after a wall pass that left him well-positioned to shoot. However, Dejné appeared to bother the Argentine, preventing his shot with a slight push. David Alaba also tested Soria's reflexes before the break, with a free kick from the edge of the area cleared with his fists by the Spanish goalkeeper.

The Austrian, however, would remain on the bench after halftime. Xabi Alonso preferred to put Raúl Asencio in the center alongside Éder Militao. In the first minutes of the second half, Real Madrid's dominance began to lose clarity, and the coach from Tolosa shook things up with the entry of Vinicius and Arda Güler for Mastantuono and Camavinga.

Nyom's expulsion freed Kylian Mbappé

With the Brazilian and the Turk on the field, Madrid once again settled near the rival's goal, although with little depth. Mbappé warned with a deflected shot after a good pass from Bellingham in the 60th minute and, ten minutes later, came close to scoring with a free kick that went just past the base of the post.

The minutes ticked by and Soria's resistance seemed unbreakable, until José Luis Munuera made a decision that changed the game. The referee sent off Allan Nyom in the 77th minute, when the defender had just come on for the booked Kiko Femenía.

In his first intervention, Nyom ran to dispute a ball with Vinicius, but slapped the Brazilian, which Munuera noticed. Without hesitation, the Andalusian referee showed the Getafe '12' the red card. Just after a couple of minutes of fruitless complaints from the Azulón team, Madrid finally found space in the rival area.

A quick 'merengue' exit allowed Arda Güler to receive freely. The Turk filtered a pass to Mbappé, who, taking advantage of the gap between Juan Iglesias and Domingos Duarte due to Nyom's expulsion, shaped up to unleash a right-footed shot that Soria managed to deflect with his hand, but still ended up as a goal after hitting the post.

Real Madrid Manages to Reach El Clásico as Leader

In the blink of an eye, Real Madrid took the lead. To the further misfortune of the home side, Álex Sancris was also sent off for a second yellow card, again after a foul, this time a clear one, on Vini.

Getafe, now with nine players on the field, held on during the final minutes, completely hunkered down near their area to avoid another goal from Real Madrid and to try to catch them on the counter. And they did so at the end, with an incredible chance by Da Costa saved in extremis by Courtois in 90+5'. The Belgian, with his save, seemed to injure his left knee.

Despite the final scare, Real Madrid regains the LaLiga lead with 24 points, 2 more than Barça, one week before the first Clásico of the 25/26 season, at the Santiago Bernabéu.
