FC Barcelona is very close to closing the registration file in LaLiga EA Sports 2025/26. This Friday, Gerard Martín was officially registered by the club, with '18' as the assigned number. The 23-year-old defender played the previous year with a reserve team contract and wearing '35' on his back. Now, he takes the number that Pau Víctor used.

Due to his age (he will turn 24 in February), Gerard could no longer be part of Barça Atlètic. The club prioritized the registrations of Joan García and Marcus Rashford for matchday 1, while Martín, along with Wojciech Szczesny and Roony Bardghji waited for their license.

Thanks to the activation of a new guarantee for 5 million euros, together with the salary cap released with the loan of Iñaki Peña and the termination of the contract of Oriol Romeu, Barça was able to register '18' and, shortly, will do the same with 'Tek' and Roony.

Barcelona already has 25 players registered in LaLiga

In this way, the Azulgrana team has 25 players registered in its official squad for LaLiga 25/26. Five of them (Diego Kochen, Jofre Torrents, 'Dro' Fernández, Guille Fernández and Toni Fernández) maintain a reserve team contract, which means there are still five places available in the first team.

All First Division clubs have 25 professional licenses enabled in their squad. With the incorporation of Gerard Martín and the imminent registrations of Szczesny and Bardghji, there would still be three places freed up.

Barça could make a last-minute signing and register him before midnight on Tuesday (the market closes on September 1 at 11:59 p.m.) as long as they return to the 1:1 rule shortly.

To do this, it would be necessary to compute the 100 million euros derived from the sale of the VIP seats of the Spotify Camp Nou or, failing that, close a millionaire sale in the final stretch of the transfer window.

The club has a couple of very tempting offers for Fermín López and Marc Casadó, while Andreas Christensen has also returned to sound like a possible reinforcement for Milan in the last hours. However, for now, the three players are reluctant to leave, since Hansi Flick has them for the season.

Gerard Martín, ready for Rayo-Barça this Sunday

In any case, beyond the surprise movements that FC Barcelona manages to close in the final stretch of the summer market, the truth is that Gerard Martín will finally be available again for a League match. Barça visits Rayo this Sunday (9:30 p.m. CEST), a always difficult rival, even more so in a stadium that will not be in optimal conditions.

The Culés will seek to add their third victory in a row, while the Madrid team comes from falling by the minimum against Athletic (1-0) and securing their place in the Europa League group stage after thrashing the Belarusian Neman Grodno (5-0 on aggregate).

With Martín, Flick recovers a very valuable player in the rear. The coach tested him as a left center back in the preseason, where the 23-year-old defender accumulated 115 minutes of action spread over four friendlies (he was a starter in one), adding a couple of assists.

In 24/25, after a first half of the season with many doubts, the youth squad settled into the team, being key in the final stretch as a substitute for Alejandro Balde. The '35' closed the season with 42 games (20 as a starter) in which he added 1 goal and 6 assists during 1,793 minutes on the field. Will he be able to improve these records in 25/26?
