Real Madrid thrashed Athletic and stays close to Barça

Real Madrid, for their part, emerged from their crisis after three consecutive draws with a rout at San Mamés. Two goals from Kylian Mbappé and another from Eduardo Camavinga sealed a comfortable victory for Xabi Alonso's men, who remain 1 point behind the Azulgrana side.

Los Blancos took the lead in the 7th minute with a wonder goal by 'Kiki'. Afterward, saves by Courtois prevented a reaction from the Bilbao side who, before the break, were down by two goals after the goal scored by Camavinga, with a header, in the 42nd minute. Later, in the 59th minute, Mbappé closed the rout with another notable finish, this time with a long-range shot.

The 'Merengue' celebration, however, was not complete in Bilbao, as Alexander-Arnold and Camavinga left injured with adductor and ankle problems, respectively. Rüdiger also ended up with a knock for a team that already has Dani Carvajal, Ferland Mendy, and Dean Huijsen on the injury list.
