Real Madrid's victory against Sevilla (2-0) reduced FC Barcelona's lead in LaLiga to 1 point, pending what happens on Sunday with Barça's visit to Villarreal (16:15 CEST)
FC Barcelona maintains the lead in LaLiga EA Sports 2025/26, currently with a 1-point advantage over Real Madrid. On Saturday, Xabi Alonso's team delivered against Sevilla (2-0) in another uninspired match conditioned by a controversial refereeing performance by Alejandro Muñiz Ruiz.
Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé, from the penalty spot, scored Madrid's goals. Madrid should have finished the first half with ten men, but the main referee forgave a second yellow card to Rodrygo Goes (who was already on a booking for simulating a penalty) after a hard stomp on Marcao.
In the second half, Marcao himself was shown a red card for a second booking, while Juanlu ended up committing a clear penalty on Rodrygo himself minutes after suffering a tackle from Fran García inside the box, which was not reviewed by VAR.
With the victory, Real Madrid reaches 42 points, one less than Barça (43), awaiting what happens on Sunday when Hansi Flick's team visits Villarreal (16:15 CEST). The Blaugrana team has won seven consecutive league games, while the 'Yellow Submarine' is third and remains undefeated at home.
