FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are starting to pull away from the rest after five matchdays played in LaLiga EA Sports 2025/26. On Sunday, the team led by Hansi Flick once again won convincingly at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, this time against Getafe (3-0), a result that allows the 'culés' to remain 2 points behind the 'merengues'.
Ferran Torres opened the scoring for the Azulgrana side in the 15th minute, finishing off a great team play after a through ball from Raphinha and a backheel assist from Dani Olmo. The 'Shark', in the 34th minute, extended the lead after finishing off a perfect counter-attack by the 'culés'. In the second half, Dani Olmo closed the scoring in the 62nd minute.
Despite the defeat, Getafe remains in the upper part of the standings, with 9 points, the same as Betis, Elche, and Athletic. Real Madrid, for now, is the only team with a perfect score after five matchdays (15).

Real Madrid and Barcelona pull away in the fight for the title
Barça secured a comfortable victory on a very rainy afternoon-evening in St. Joan Despí. In addition to Ferran Torres' brace, Dani Olmo joined the 'culé' party with a goal and an assist. The '20' had backheeled the first goal for the 'Shark' and closed the scoring in the second half, taking advantage of a pass from Marcus Rashford.
For Real Madrid, two long-range shots were enough to secure their fifth consecutive victory in LaLiga, against Espanyol (2-0). Éder Militao, in the 22nd minute, and Kylian Mbappé, in the 47th minute, surprised goalkeeper Dmitrovic with two powerful shots, the second benefiting from a slight deflection off an opponent.
On Sunday, early in the day, Rayo and Celta drew in Vallecas (1-1), a result that keeps the Madrid team (14th) and the Galician team (15th) in the lower part of the standings, with just 5 points. The same happened in Son Moix with Mallorca and Atlético de Madrid (1-1).
The 'colchoneros' could not get past a draw (1-1) in a match where Julián Álvarez missed a penalty and Sortloth was sent off in the second half. Connor Gallagher put the visitors ahead in the 79th minute, but Vedat Muriqi equalized in the 87th minute. Jagoba Arrasate's team remains second to last, with just 2 points.
In the other match on Sunday, Barça's next opponent, Real Oviedo, lost on their visit to Elche (1-0). Eder Sarabia's team, for now, is the great revelation of the tournament, climbing to fifth place with 9 points thanks to André Silva's lone goal in the 9th minute.
Other matches of matchday 5 of LaLiga
The team that can't get their head above water and remains sunk at the bottom is Girona. Early on Saturday, Míchel's team was crushed at Montilivi by Levante (0-4).
Again, the 'rojiblanca' defense leaked with the expulsions of Axel Witsel and Vitor Reis, in the 30th and 46th minutes. Etta Eyong opened the scoring for the 'granotas' in the 43rd minute, and in the second half, Carlos Álvarez, Iván Romero, and Goduine Koyalipou closed the scoring, already with only nine Girona rivals on the field.
The one that remains in the upper zone is Villarreal (3rd). The 'Yellow Submarine' came back against Osasuna (12th) at the Estadio de la Cerámica (2-1), while Sevilla (8th) did the same as a visitor in Vitoria (1-2) against Alavés (9th). Valencia (10th), meanwhile, also surprised Athletic (7th) at Mestalla (2-0).
On Friday, at the start of the matchday, Betis did their homework against Real Sociedad (3-1) with goals from Juan Hernández, Álex Remiro (own goal), and Pablo Fornals. Brais Méndez scored the only goal for the 'donostiarra'.
