FC Barcelona regained the lead in LaLiga EA Sports 2025/26 thanks to a well-deserved victory against Real Sociedad (2-1). Hansi Flick's team, for the second consecutive matchday, came back from an initial goal by Álvaro Odriozola, this time thanks to goals from Jules Koundé and Robert Lewandowski to surpass Real Madrid in the standings.

With the victory in Montjuïc, the sixth in seven appearances for Barça in the tournament, the Azulgrana team has 19 points, one more than the 'Casa Blanca'. In addition, the Culés are, along with Elche, the only team that remains undefeated in the tournament after seven matchdays played.

Barça did their homework against Real Sociedad to seize the lead

In Montjuïc, Barça completed their third comeback of the tournament to overcome a combative Real Sociedad. Sergio Francisco's team made the defeat expensive after taking the lead in the 30th minute with a goal from Álvaro Odriozola. Barça had 22 shots, 12 of them on target, but the posts and the saves of Álex Remiro (8) prevented a large difference.

Flick's team equalized before halftime with a great header from Jules Koundé, after another corner from Rashford from the left. In the second half, still with the game tied, Flick brought on Lamine Yamal for Roony Bardghji in the 57th minute, and the '10' resolved the match as soon as he entered.

With the first ball he received, the player from Mataró surpassed Sergi Gómez in speed to send a chipped cross to the penalty spot, right where Robert Lewandowski appeared between the Donostian center-backs to score with a header. The 18-year-old winger reappeared after almost a month (27 days) and did so with his third assist of the season, key to returning the lead to the Culés.

Julián Álvarez and Antoine Griezmann rounded off a historic 'little hand' for Atlético

Barcelona's victory capitalized on Atlético's historic thrashing of Real Madrid (5-2). On Saturday, Diego Simeone's team gave Xabi Alonso's team a 'bath' of the era at the Metropolitano, leaving the 'merengues' in ridicule, without an undefeated record and without the lead on matchday 7.

The 'colchonero' team started winning with a goal from Robin Le Normand, and although Madrid came back with goals from Kylian Mbappé and Arda Güler, Alexander Sorloth equalized the actions before halftime. In the second half, a double from Julián Álvarez and another goal from Antoine Griezmann at the end completed the first 'little hand' in 75 years for the 'rojiblancos' against their biggest rival.

With the historic thrashing, Atlético rises to fifth place in the standings with 12 points, one less than Elche. The 'franjiverde' team continues its streak and, on Sunday, reached 13 points after defeating Celta (2-1). Real, meanwhile, is now second with 18 points, one less than Barça.

Other matches of matchday 7

In the rest of matchday 7, there were two draws at the start of the date: 0-0 between Girona and Espanyol in Montilivi and 1-1 between Getafe and Levante in Madrid. Espanyol and Getafe remain in the upper part of the standings, while Levante and Girona continue in the fight for permanence, with the 'albirrojos' still in the basement.

Also on Saturday, Mallorca defeated Alavés (1-0) and Villarreal did the same against Athletic (1-0). On Sunday, before the Barça-Real Sociedad match, Sevilla surprised Rayo in Vallecas (0-1). With that result, the Hispalenses rise to eighth place with 10 points, while Rayo is now fifteenth with 5 points, the same as Celta (16th).

Real Sociedad, meanwhile, remains in 17th place after falling to Barça, on the verge of the relegation zone occupied, for now, by Mallorca, Oviedo, and Girona. Later on Sunday, it's the turn of Betis 2-0 Osasuna. The matchday closes on Monday with Valencia-Oviedo.
