Atlético, big disappointment of the first matchday
Espanyol's victory, without a doubt, was the big surprise so far of the opening matchday. The 'pericos' came back against Atlético de Madrid in Cornellà (2-1) with goals from Miguel Rubio and Pere Milla. Julián Álvarez, with a free kick, had put the 'colchoneros' ahead before the break.
'Aleti' has spent 175 million euros on signings this summer, with up to nine incorporations. However, Diego Simeone's team fails to take off and debuted with a tough defeat on Catalan soil.
Athletic, meanwhile, struggled to defeat Sevilla at San Mamés (3-2). The Hispalenses came back from the initial goals of Nico Williams (from a penalty) and Sannadi through Lukebakio and Agoumé. However, Robert Navarro, nine minutes from the end, gave the victory to Ernesto Valverde's team.
In Vigo, Celta was also surprised by Getafe. Javier Bordalás' team took the victory thanks to goals from Liso and Uche. The matchday continues on Monday with Elche hosting Betis and ends on Tuesday with Real Madrid-Osasuna.
