FC Barcelona once again took advantage of Robert Lewandowski's effectiveness as a spark plug. Against Real Oviedo (1-3), the '9' was a substitute for Ferran Torres, but entered in the 65th minute for Raphinha. The Brazilian, according to Hansi Flick, suffered a slight muscle discomfort and, therefore, left his place on the field to the Pole, although the 'Shark' remained on the field.
It only took 'Lewy' 4 minutes and 53 seconds to leave his mark on the match. In the 70th minute, the experienced striker took advantage of a cross from Frenkie de Jong to head with perfect power and placement. The ball hit the crossbar before entering the goal, leaving Aarón Escandell static.
Lewandowski: 3 goals with Barça in the 25/26 season as a substitute
For Robert, this was his third goal of the season, again responding as a spark plug. Previously, the '9' had scored two goals against Valencia (6-0) in a match he entered in the 68th minute. That day, it took him just under 8 minutes to shake the net, something he had not done, in official matches, since matchday 38 of the previous season.
For now, 'Lewy' averages a goal every 78 minutes, although he has not managed to score in the two matches he has played as a starter. Ferran, on the other hand, has 4 goals in 7 matches, but his average is one goal every 119 minutes.
"It has been important. This is what we want from him. Inside the area he is one of the best in the world," said Hansi Flick in the post-match press conference when referring to Lewandowski. Clearly, as an area reference, the Pole remains the most reliable option in the Blaugrana squad.
Lewandowski has no doubts regarding his role in Barcelona
After the match, Robert Lewandowski spoke with 'DAZN' about his feelings about the victory and his third goal in La Liga. The '9' was coming from two matches (Newcastle and Getafe) without scoring.
"We know that Oviedo has football and I like how they play. In the first half we had problems finding the finish. In the second half we started playing a little faster and we were patient. In the end three goals and a very important victory."
Similarly, Robert assured that he has overcome the muscle problems that prevented him from being at his best in the first three matchdays. The Pole was injured in the last friendly of the Asian tour, against Daegu, and that took its toll on him in the first month of the 25/26 season.
"The season is long and there are many matches. For me it is important to keep playing and keep scoring goals. I feel physically very good. For the team it is important that when we have all the players without injury we are stronger," said the '9'.
With his goal against Oviedo, 'Lewy' already has 104 goals in 153 official matches with Barça. 72 of those goals were scored in 108 matchdays of LaLiga, a tournament in which he was Pichichi in the year of his arrival (22/23).
