Laporta supports LaLiga's proposal to play matches in the United States

Everything indicates that FC Barcelona could play a LaLiga match in Miami, United States, in the 2025/26 season that begins on August 15. The Azulgrana president, Joan Laporta, opened the door for this possibility to become a reality, in addition to showing his support for the idea of the employers' association.

Well, in an interview with the 'CNN' network, 'Jan' was blunt when the issue of playing a league match on North American soil was raised, something he spoke about with total conviction and confident in the initiative.

"We are open and available. We love going to the United States every year: we feel loved, respected as a club, we have many fans there. Playing LaLiga there would be interesting," Laporta pointed out.

He also stated that Barça is “at LaLiga's disposal” to play an official match in the USA. This option has been on the table of the culé board for some time.

What match would Barça play in the United States?

An initial idea that is being considered is to take the match between Barça and Villarreal CF, from matchday 17 of the competition, to American soil. The match is planned for the weekend of December 20 and 21, which would represent the competitive farewell of the year 2025 for LaLiga. In that match, those led by Marcelino García Toral would be the home team.

However, there is an alternative scenario. The week between the 15th and 21st of the last month of the year does not include European competitions. But between December 16 and 18, the round of 32 of the Copa del Rey are scheduled to be played. This is a round in which the teams from the First Division come into play and the matches are played in a single match.

Therefore, if the match takes place in Miami, LaLiga would have to make changes to the calendar so that the Azulgrana team and the 'Yellow Submarine' can travel to American soil in time.

It is worth remembering that for now everything would be an idea without major progress in recent weeks. The employers' association rules out Real Madrid from taking them to the USA due to the bad relationship between its president, Javier Tebas, and Florentino Pérez, which is why the LaLiga president is betting on Barça.
