OFFICIAL: Copa América changes dates and will also be played in 2021

The world of the football follows reacting to the crisis of the coronavirus, and this Tuesday has left important news. The meeting of the UEFA has confirmed what was a secret to voices, and is that they will prioritise the competitions of clubs above the national selections. After postponing the Eurocopa to 2021 to do place to the calendar of the leagues and the eurotorneos, the decision has reproduced in other territories in doubt.

The CONMEBOL has taken example and has suspended equally the celebration of the Glass America, that also will happen to the summer 2021. The organism that regulates the football in Sudamérica has communicated that opts by this road for "salvaguardar the health of the football sudamericano", and in spite of that the impact of the epidemic still is not so stood out as in the old continent, are activating the measures to avoid a greater danger.

In an official communiqué has concretised that the dates of the 47ª edition of the championship keep , and that between 11 June and on 11 July of the next year will recover the parties programmed initially for this 2020. Besides, it adds that the will was to centre the efforts in a good organisation of the event, something that today remains in second plane because of the priority fixed in the security of the population.

In the text appreciates the collaboration of the presidents of the countries calm, Argentina and Colombia, and his respective federations, and also specifies that in the last days worked jointly with the UEFA and with his maximum mandator, Alexander Ceferin, to coordinate the temporary cancellation of both international championships thinking in the "profit of all the family of the football".

Finally, the notification appreciates the understanding of the fans and of all the world of the football, and closes clearing that the CONMEBOL will inform in the next months of the changes and decisions taken in relation to the recommendations of the sanitary authorities, a work that again will have the support of all the Associations Member and other sportive entities of this field.

The communiqué of CONMEBOL on the Glass America

"After a detailed analysis of the situation around the world-wide and regional evolution of the Coronavirus (COVID19), and of the recommendations made by the international organisms in matter of Public Health for extremar the cautions, the CONMEBOL communicates the postponement of the edition 47 of the CONMEBOL Glass America to the dates of 11 June to the 11 July of 2021.

The Confederation, with his President Alejandro Domínguez at the front, beside the 10 presidents of the different Associations Member, considers that an event of this magnitude deserves that all the attention and effort was centred in his organisation; priority that today remains in second plane to protect the health and security of the selections, fans, media and host cities.

"It is an extraordinary measure for an unexpected situation, and therefore it answers to the fundamental need to avoid an exponential evolution of the virus; present already in all the countries of the Associations Member of the Confederation. From the CONMEBOL has not been easy to take this decision, but have to salvaguardar at all times the health of our sportsmen and of all the agents that form part of the big family of the football sudamericano. They do not have doubt that the tournament of selections more ancient of the world will go back with strengths renewed in 2021, smart to do vibrate again to the continent and to the whole world with the passion that always characterises us.

It would like us appreciate very especially to the Gentlemen Presidents of the Argentinian Republic, Don Alberto Fernández, and of the Republic of Colombia, Don Iván Duque, all the samples of cordialidad and permanent collaboration together with his respective Ministers and governmental civil servants for the organisation of this big championship. In this same sense, arrive also our big recognition by the constant accompaniment and the work developed by the Presidents of the Association of the Argentinian Football, Claudio Wall and of the Colombian Federation of Football, Ramón Jesurún, to concretise the realisation of the CONMEBOL Glass America 2020 in his respective countries.

We appreciate also to UEFA and to his President, Aleksander Čeferin, by the work in group and the decision coordinated to postpone also the Eurocopa 2020 for profit of all the family of the football.

And finally, but no less important, to the fans and all the community of the football in general by his understanding in front of this unexpected situation", expressed Alejandro Domínguez, President of the CONMEBOL.
