Brazilian Reinier will return to his country to wear the Atlético Mineiro shirt, after terminating his contract with Real Madrid a year before its end

Reinier Jesus arrived at Real Madrid from Flamengo in January 2020. After seeing minutes in Real Madrid Castilla and being loaned to four European clubs in five seasons, he finally agreed to leave the 'merengue' club to try to relaunch his career in the Brasileirao.

In that sense, the Brazilian's signing was a real fiasco for the 'Casa Blanca'. The club paid 30 million euros for his transfer, but the offensive midfielder, who can play without problems as a winger on both sides, could not even make his debut in the first team.

Reinier failed to adapt to European football

It seemed that the 23-year-old footballer could follow the line of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes, who also arrived very young at the Santiago Bernabéu and finally managed to settle in the elite, but his performance was not as expected.

Reinier's best moment was in the 'mengao', with which he won the Copa Libertadores in 2019. However, he only played three games with Castilla in the second half of 19/20. Although he scored a couple of goals, Madrid preferred to give him playing time in another more powerful club than its subsidiary in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic.

That's how the player went on loan to Borussia Dortmund (2020-2022) where he only played 39 games in two seasons (he made 1 goal and 1 assist). Afterwards, he had fleeting spells at Girona, Frosinone and Granada (in Segunda). In the three clubs he averaged 20 appearances per season, without establishing himself as a starter.

Although he had one more year of contract, Real Madrid had no choice but to give him a letter of freedom to speed up his departure. In five seasons, the Brasilia native was unable to settle in European football and now returns to his country with the aim of relaunching his career.

Atlético Mineiro, a lifeline for Reinier

In that sense, Reinier will arrive at an Atlético Mineiro that wants to win titles again. The team was runner-up in the last edition of the Libertadores and is one of the candidates to be a finalist in the current edition of the Copa Sudamericana.

The 'galo' is in thirteenth position in the Brasileirao standings and will play the round of 16 of the Copa Sudamericana against Godoy Cruz of Argentina. Without a doubt, the signing of the offensive midfielder will from now on be his main card to try to close the year by lifting a trophy.
