Ansu Fati to Monaco: Barça hopes to close his loan soon

FC Barcelona and AS Monaco are very close to closing the loan of Ansu Fati. After months of uncertainty about the future of '10', the French team has convinced the Spanish international to try his luck in Ligue 1, in what will be his second loan move from the Azulgrana team.

In the summer of 2023, Fati went on loan to Brighton, where he played little due to injuries and a bad relationship with coach Roberto De Zerbi. In total, the winger played 27 games in which he scored 4 goals and 1 assist.

In 24/25 he returned to Barcelona, but was the second player with the fewest minutes in the team led by Hansi Flick. He only played 11 games (2 as a starter), accumulating just 298 minutes of action. Now, Monaco will try to recover the magic of the 22-year-old striker.

In that sense, the reason that has finally convinced Ansu to pack his bags to the Principality is that coach Adi Hüttler guarantees him not only prominence, but also a starting position from day one. 

Of course, the player from Bissau will have the pressure to justify his position with performance, but if, for example, the winger takes a dozen games without scoring, this will not question his presence in the XI.

And, for Monaco, Ansu's resurgence depends on two key factors: confidence and continuity. The striker needs to play always and feel the confidence of the coaching staff to return to his best version after three very frustrating years (two in Barcelona).

In 22723, Xavi Hernández dosed his minutes to the maximum to avoid new injuries. In 24/25, the tough competition for a place in the Azulgrana attack completely marginalized him from Hansi Flick's plans, even when the coach was delighted to have him available.

Of course, the injury suffered by '10' during the preseason weighed heavily to reduce his chances of being a starter in the first half of the year. Already in 2025, Fati's attitude in training ended up sentencing him. 

Barça will reserve a repurchase option with Ansu Fati

As things stand, Barça has well underway the departure of Ansu Fati, a very important operation for the club's finances, as it will allow them to free up a place in the squad and part of the salary of '10' (around 14 million gross).

In principle, Monaco will acquire his services through a one-year loan, with a non-mandatory purchase option. If the Gauls decide to buy the winger, Barça reserves the possibility of repurchase and, probably, a percentage of a future sale.

The player from Bissau has a contract until June 2027 and his agent, Jorge Mendes, promised Barça a transfer in the order of 30 million euros in 2023. However, the collapse of his market value in recent years would lead to a sale close to 10 'kilos'.
