Barcelona prioritizes continuing to lighten the wage bill in order to operate under the 1/1 rule. This would mean that the Azulgrana team has to cash in on players like Andreas Christensen
The sports management of FC Barcelona does not stop looking for exits that can generate solutions to continue shaping the squad. In this sense, the Azulgrana management is aware that it must continue to reduce its salary cost of the squad in order to incorporate other players, and one of the keys would be Andreas Christensen.
The Danish central defender (who had a tough season due to injuries that barely allowed him to play just 259 minutes) would be earning around six million euros net per season, which would be equivalent to 12 'kilos' gross per year, according to 'Culemania'.
This is why Barça would be interested in the player leaving the club, in addition to the fact that he still has one year (2026) of his contract left and they want to continue making room to operate comfortably under the 1/1 rule of financial fair play.
Loss of market value
Christensen is experiencing a marked drop in his market value. At the beginning of the season, the Danish defender was valued at 40 million euros, but currently that figure has dropped to 12, according to Transfermarkt.
This depreciation highlights a decline in his performance and prominence, factors that could obviously influence future decisions of the club regarding his continuity.
Another point that the sports top brass of the Azulgrana team takes into account is that there is one too many central defenders in the squad. Both Pau Cubarsí and Íñigo Martínez, Ronald Araujo and Eric García are above the native defender from Lillerød.
According to rumors, Barcelona would also want to prevent the 29-year-old player from continuing to devalue and not being able to get a considerable figure that can help the club's coffers.
Christensen wants to stay at Barça
Apparently, the '15' would not be interested in changing teams, as he is motivated by the Barça project and fulfilling his entire contract. Furthermore, he would not even want to listen to offers because he believes he can convince coach Hansi Flick to have a place in the squad.
Despite the fact that he has supposedly received interest from teams such as Al-Nassr of the Saudi Pro League or AC Milan of Serie A, the player would not be bothered by this, as he would not be willing to move. He also feels very comfortable living in Barcelona.
The defender even cut short his vacations to start training at the Ciutat Esportiva last Wednesday (July 2), while most players will report from next Sunday, July 13 to undergo medical tests and start the pre-season.
An operation for the Dane could be closed for around 15 'kilos'. We will have to wait and see what moves Barcelona makes to continue strengthening the squad.
