Marcos Senesi is one of the bargains that next summer's transfer window can offer in terms of center-backs. The Argentine defender's contract with Bournemouth ends in June and he is on the radar of several big clubs
Marcos Senesi is one of the center-backs whose contract expires in 2026 and is rumored to be a possible reinforcement for several European giants, including Juventus and FC Barcelona. The Argentine is a key player at English club Bournemouth, which he joined in 2022 from Feyenoord for 15 million euros.
The defender, who came up through the San Lorenzo de Almagro academy, arrived in Holland in 2019 and played a total of 116 games for the Rotterdam team, scoring 9 goals and providing 7 assists. After his move to the Premier League, he established himself as a reliable center-back in build-up play and formidable in aerial duels.
With Bournemouth, he has accumulated 6 goals and 8 assists in 107 appearances. This season, he started in 16 of 17 matches (1,445 minutes) with Andoni Iraola's team, contributing 3 assists for a team that occupies 15th place in the Premier League with 22 points.
Barça could sign Marcos Senesi for 'zero cost' next summer
At the moment, there are no ongoing negotiations between Senesi and the 'cherries' board to renew his contract. The Argentine international knows he will be able to negotiate an extra bonus for signing as a free agent, in addition to improving the salary he currently receives in England (3 million gross per year).
In this regard, Barça could sign the player from Concordia at 'zero cost', a key factor in the search for reinforcements for the Blaugrana team in recent markets. The Catalan board plans to spend a significant amount next summer on a '9' if, ultimately, Robert Lewandowski ends up leaving in June.
Regarding center-backs, the option to bring in a reinforcement in January is still open, although nothing is defined at the moment. The long-term absence of Andreas Christensen could open the door for a signing in the next transfer window, but the coaching staff does not yet see the arrival of another defender clearly.
First, because Hansi Flick has Ronald Araujo as a 'reinforcement' for the second half of the season, once the Uruguayan returns to training next week. Furthermore, the squad has enough replacements for the center-back position, including Gerard Martín and Jules Koundé himself.
Juventus and other European giants also want Senesi
In the case of Marcos Senesi, Barcelona knows it will face a lot of competition in the summer if it finally decides to enter the bidding for the 28-year-old defender. In Italy, Juventus is very interested in his signing, as the constant injuries of Federico Gatti and Daniele Rugani raise many doubts for the future.
In LaLiga, besides Barça, **Atlético de Madrid** is strongly rumored as a possible destination for the Bournemouth defender. Diego Simeone would be willing to add Senesi to the 'Colchonero' squad as a replacement for the experienced José María Giménez, whose physical problems also create uncertainty at the club.
