An economic detail has paralyzed the agreement between Barça and Mallorca for the young Jan Virgili: What is it about?
FC Barcelona apparently does not rule out getting rid of one of the most striking youth players who currently live in La Masia this summer: Jan Virgili. The player from Vilassar de Mar was under Hansi Flick's orders in the first days of training this 2025/26 preseason, leaving pleasant sensations as an option to take into account with a view to the future to reinforce the left wing.
However, all these forecasts took a 180 degree turn. The reason? According to several sources, Virgili would have conveyed to the Barça club his desire to leave the institution this summer window, as he is not convinced of seeing action with Barça Atlètic.
Juliano Belletti's team will play the 2025/26 season in the Second RFEF, and the left winger would like to take a qualitative leap in his nascent career. A complicated issue to achieve in the first team, which has an overbooking of forwards and would have little, if not zero, space for a player who for the moment is still seen as green.
Mallorca shows interest in signing Jan Virgili
Given the option of Virgili leaving, several Spanish teams have shown interest in his incorporation. One of them, it has been said, is RCD Mallorca, a team with which Barcelona already did business this summer for the transfer of Pablo Torre, and who would be willing to hire the youth player.
Even, Jagoba Arrasate, coach of the vermellón team, he would have already spoken with Jan. A player willing to join a new adventure with the Pirates.
Economic differences slow down the operation between Barcelona and Mallorca
However, despite the fact that all parties seem to agree on a transfer, Barcelona and Mallorca disagree on a key point: the economic conditions. According to the sports newspaper SPORT, the Barcelona team already has clear its claims for the forward: 4 M€ for 50% of its federative rights, which would guarantee the Catalan team half of the transfer price in case of a future sale.
However, as the aforementioned source asserts, these conditions do not conform to what Mallorca is willing to pay for Jan Virgili. In fact, the vermellones consider that the amounts are very far from their forecasts and would have ruled out matching the amount stipulated by Barça to close this operation.
The culés prioritize a sale, but do not rule out a loan
At this point, the Pirates do not contemplate offering more than two million euros for Virgili and negotiating some clauses, such as sharing 50% of the player's pass. In principle, the discrepancy of positions would be slowing down this transaction, with the preferred route of the culés being a sale, since the loan is perceived as an unprofitable option at an economic level. For a market in which Barcelona prioritizes income, this alternative is not at all attractive.
