Barça has not lost hope of making money with Óscar Mingueza this summer, although Celta insists on renewing him
The FC Barcelona board is still very attentive to the future of Óscar Mingueza. The Catalan defender is one of the players who can leave profits in the Barça coffers this summer, but Celta de Vigo is doing everything possible to retain him.
Mingueza has a contract until 2026 and coach Claudio Giráldez considers him a key piece in his scheme. In 24/25, the player from Santa Perpètua de Mogoda added 4 goals and 6 assists in 36 matches, 34 of them in La Liga.
In that sense, in Balaídos they hope to retain him, considering that the team will play in the next edition of the Europa League. Óscar already has experience in international competitions with Barça and has also been called up by Luis de la Fuente with La Roja.
Barça can receive a significant amount for Mingueza's transfer
However, there are several clubs interested in the 26-year-old full-back, with Aston Villa being the one pushing the hardest. Unai Emery wants to reinforce his defense this summer and the right side is one of the positions considered a priority.
At the moment, Matty Cash is the first option available to the Spanish coach, but the Englishman's performance was quite discreet in 24/25. The player from Slough barely participated in 3 goals (1 goal, 2 assists) in 38 appearances.
Barça agreed to his departure to the Galician team in 2022 at 'zero cost', but reserved 50% of his sports rights. At the moment, his clause is 20 million euros, identical to his market value in Transfermarkt. With this, the Catalans would have 10 'kilos' assured in case of a transfer.
However, for now there is nothing assured, although the starting price of the Catalan defender is quite affordable. The Birmingham team has already spent 7 million on the central defender Yasin Öscan (Turkish), this being, for now, their only purchase of the summer market.
Óscar Mingueza does not clearly see his departure from LaLiga
Another reason why Óscar Mingueza's future remains undefined is because the defender seems to feel comfortable in Vigo. The '3' knows he is an undisputed starter with Celta, where he already has 6 goals and 9 assists in 100 official matches.
Taking into account that this season precedes a World Cup, the former Barça player prioritizes performing at his best to have options to enter Luis de la Fuente's final list. In the 'final four' of the Nations League, the Catalan was a starter in the final against Portugal.
In addition to Aston Villa, Olympique de Marseille is another of the clubs interested in signing him. The Gauls will be in the next Champions League, while Celta and Aston Villa will go to the Europa League. Will Mingueza accept the challenge of trying his luck abroad for the first time in his career?
