A little over two weeks ago, two of the most sought-after left wingers on the market, Luis Díaz and Nico Williams, were strongly tipped to become the star reinforcements of FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich, respectively. The 'culés' seemed to be opting for the Colombian after the 'no' of the Athletic striker last summer.
Bayern, for their part, were targeting the Spanish international as a 'consolation' after Florian Wirtz's arrival at Liverpool. This signing, precisely, opened the market for 'Lucho', since the 125 million euros that the German cost force the 'reds' to close one or several exits in the summer.
However, the exchange of cards between the English, Bavarians and 'culés' has taken a radical turn in recent days. Nico ruled out negotiating with Bayern, offering himself again to a Barça that looks very favorably on his signing. Unlike Díaz, the Bilbao '10' will arrive for 58 'kilos', at least 12 M€ less than the minimum that the Merseyside team will accept for their '7'.
Bayern doesn't waste time: Luis Díaz is their new priority
This scenario leads Bayern to consider going for Luis, a player who would fit very well into Vincent Kompany's scheme. The Belgian has Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry for the left side of his attack, but both players (especially the Canadian) are on the ropes and could leave in the summer.
Not in vain, the Bavarian general manager, Max Eberl, returned to Munich in the middle of the team's participation in the Club World Cup to lead negotiations for several players, including, probably, the Colombian international.
Media such as 'DAZN' and 'BILD' have confirmed Bayern's interest in Díaz, whose departure from Liverpool is expected to close for around 70-75 million euros. The Barrancas native has a contract until 2028 and added 17 goals and 8 assists in 50 games in 24/25 with the 'reds'.
Arne Slot still considers him a key piece in his scheme, but understands Liverpool's need to cash in after the signing of Florian Wirtz. The Colombian striker, for his part, also feels comfortable at Anfield, but only hopes to play in a team where he can be a protagonist.
Nico Williams and Luis Díaz: Barça has already made its choice
For Barça, 'Lucho's' talent and salary were very interesting, but finally Nico Williams has anticipated for logical reasons. The Basque is younger (23) and his adaptation to the 'culé' scheme will be much faster, as he will be able to coincide with several of his teammates in the national team.
The tandem with Alejandro Balde, Dani Olmo and Fermín López on the left and with Lamine Yamal in the front of attack promises to be lethal for the already fearsome 'azulgrana' attack. As things stand, the exchange of cards between Liverpool, Bayern and Barça could leave all parties satisfied. Except for Athletic, which continues to express its regret for the departure of its star.
