Chelsea dreams of signing Fermín López and does not rule out offering one of their forwards as part of the deal. Who is it?

Chelsea is not satisfied with the Club World Cup and wants to go for its third UEFA Champions League in 2026. The 'blues' have closed the season with two international titles under Enzo Maresca and, for next season, they do not plan to stop spending millions on reinforcements, although their squad currently has 46 players.

In that sense, the latest rumors from England point to the London team's interest in Fermín López. The player from Huelva has been on the radar of those from Stamford Bridge for months, but for the moment there is no green light from the midfielder to negotiate with Barça.

Fermín has a contract until 2029 and his release clause remains at 500 million euros. In the 24/25 season, he scored 8 goals and provided 10 assists in 46 appearances with Hansi Flick's team, starting in 22 opportunities.

Chelsea offers Nkunku for Fermín: Is it convenient for Barcelona?

For the moment, the player from Huelva has no intention of leaving, but Chelsea can tempt Barça with a very interesting offer. The 'blues' are well aware of the Barça's interest in signing another left winger, as well as the scarce funds available in the culés coffers to amortize transfers.

For this reason, the brand new world champion of clubs could offer a swap for one of its players relegated in Enzo Maresca's plans. The English are looking to offload Christopher Nkunku and could offer the French international as part of the payment for Fermín.

The operation is, at the very least, interesting for the board, as he is a forward that Deco likes a lot. The player from agny-sur-Marne arrived in London in 2023 in exchange for 60 million euros, but could leave for around 40-45 'kilos'. Approximately half of what Barça expects to bill for López.

So far, the Frenchman has played 62 official matches in which he has scored 18 goals and provided 5 assists. Although he can play as an attacking midfielder and center forward, Nkunku feels more comfortable as a left winger.

His best moment was at RB Leipzig, where he scored 70 goals in 172 appearances, in addition to 56 assists. In the 24/25 season, he scored at least one goal in the six competitions that Chelsea played, closing the season with 15 goals.

Fermín López, one of the 'untouchables' for Hansi Flick

Beyond being a still young forward (27 years old) with extensive experience in Europe after his time at PSG, Leipzig and Chelsea, Barça does not see it feasible to get rid of Fermín to make room for another left winger.

First, because Hansi Flick considers him indispensable for his rotation plan, although it is likely that the battle for a place in the XI will be much tougher with the incorporation of another forward. The '16' alternated protagonism with Dani Olmo last season, responding to the coach's confidence with 18 direct participations in goals.

In addition, Barça hopes to amortize the signing of its new forward without depending on the departure of one of its referents. In addition to the pending 'lever' of the VIP seats of the Spotify Camp Nou (100 million), the board will receive another 40 'kilos' through a sponsorship agreement with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

With this it will be enough to return to rule 1.1 and register the reinforcements signed this summer, along with the update of the contracts of those players who renew. For now, it remains to resolve the signing of Frenkie de Jong and Eric García, both with the possibility of leaving for free in 2026.
