Andreas Christensen will be able to negotiate with any team as a free agent from January 1, so Barça will reactivate his renewal soon. Flick counts 100% on him

Calendar of FC Barcelona

The future of Andreas Christensen is still uncertain with FC Barcelona. The 29-year-old central defender convinced Hansi Flick to count on him thanks to his good performances in the final stretch of 24/25 and the preseason with the Azulgrana team. However, the Dane only has one year of contract left and the club is not willing to lose another defender for 'free' in 2026.

After the surprising departure of Iñigo Martínez this summer (heading to Arabia with Al Nassr), the board understands that, with Christensen, they should not waste time to resolve his contractual situation.

The defender has the possibility of negotiating as a free agent from January 1, a factor that will increase the number of teams interested in his transfer. In the previous transfer window, AC Milan was the most interested in signing him, but Andreas declined to listen to offers.

Christensen, a key figure or a replacement for Flick?

The fact is that, beyond knowing that he is a substitute at Barça, Christensen feels very comfortable in the Azulgrana team. First, because he knows that Flick counts on him and fully trusts him. The coach has already given him 104 minutes of playing time in the first three matchdays of La Liga, including a start against Rayo (1-1).

In addition, the player from Lillerod is convinced of the possibility of continuing to win titles with the Culés in 2026, after an entire season in the infirmary due to physical problems. The Dane was an important piece in LaLiga and the Supercopa won in 2022, but the previous year he occupied a totally residual role as a result of the injuries.

The '15' only played 6 games (259 minutes), but reappeared in the preseason with 147 minutes spread over the four summer friendlies. He even scored a goal against Seoul (3-7) and, against Rayo in the third matchday of La Liga, he partnered with Eric García in the center of the defense.

Barcelona's plan with the future of Andreas Christensen

In that sense, the board understands that Andreas Christensen will be important for Hansi Flick's rotation plan in 25/26 and already has a clear roadmap to follow with the Dane in the coming months. The idea is to renew him, at least, until 2027, without ruling out a loan or transfer in the next winter market.

This, of course, provided that the player gives the go-ahead. The Dane will turn 30 in April and, although he arrived on a free transfer in 2022, the club hopes to receive an offer in the order of 20 million euros if the central defender definitively overcomes his physical problems.

In his three seasons as a Barcelona player, Christensen has 4 goals and 3 assists in 82 appearances with the first team. In his record already appear five official titles, one less than those he lifted with Chelsea between 2017 and 2022.
