Special market for the Club World Cup: opportunity for signings for everyone, including Barça
As FIFA had anticipated, the summer transfer market will have a special transfer window prior to the start of the 2025 Club World Cup. From June 1 to 10, all teams can make moves regardless of whether they participate in the tournament that kicks off on Saturday, June 14 in Miami.
In that sense, FC Barcelona will be able to manage reinforcements, transfers and/or loans during the first week of June, to the extent that its financial 'Fair Play' allows. The board maintains the possibility of incorporating a couple of reinforcements in defense and attack, although confidence in the current squad is total after the three titles won in 24/25.
At the moment, the club is still exceeded in its salary margin to sign, but it can solve this through a couple of exits. In addition, Barça must still receive the money derived from the sale of 475 VIP seats at the new Spotify Camp Nou, a 'lever' of 100 'kilos' pending the 'ok' from the new Azulgrana financial auditor to the construction of the locations in the Estadi.
Real Madrid, Atlético and Barça, very attentive to the June transfer window
Although the Azulgrana team will not participate in the Club World Cup, they can take advantage to resolve some pending issues. Players like Clément Lenglet, Oriol Romeu and Álex Valle must return to the club in July after completing their respective loans and the board prioritizes finding them a team as soon as possible.
From the first team squad, Ansu Fati, Pau Víctor, Pablo Torre and Iñaki Peña also have a clear need to change scenery this summer, as they have run out of space in Hansi Flick's rotation plan. Any of these four players could use the first week of June to find a team.
The summer market will reopen on June 16 and, in Spain, will close on August 31 at 11:59 p.m. In the case of Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid, Spanish representatives in the Club World Cup, it is expected that they will make one or two signings before the start of the tournament.
Madrid has already confirmed the incorporation of the Spanish central defender Dean Huijsen, who arrives from Bournemouth in exchange for 59.5 million euros. Likewise, the 'merengue' team hopes to add another midfielder and a left back to Xabi Alonso's team.
FIFA will give another extra week at the end of June to add other reinforcements
On the other hand, if it comes to signing players who will receive their letter of freedom on June 30, the day their contracts end, the clubs participating in the World Cup that are still alive in the tournament will be able to register them in another open window from Friday, June 27 to Thursday, July 3.
Real Madrid, in fact, may be one of the most benefited by this measure, since one of its star signings for next season, Trent Alexander-Arnold, will arrive as a free agent. However, the Englishman can only sign with the 'Casa Blanca' from July 1.
For this reason, the 'merengues' are working to convince Liverpool to release the player from June 1, so that the right back can debut with Madrid in the first match of the World Cup, on June 18 against the Saudi Al Hilal.
