Barça will hold the renewal ceremony for Frenkie de Jong this Wednesday. The 28-year-old midfielder will sign until 2029, maintaining his release clause at 500 million euros
The board of FC Barcelona will finalize the renewal of Frenkie de Jong this Wednesday, October 15. The event will take place in President Joan Laporta's office starting at 13:30 CEST. The Barça YouTube channel will broadcast the signing live, this being the first of the four pending renewals in the squad that the club has managed to close.
Along with Frenkie, Eric García, Robert Lewandowski, and Andreas Christensen also have contracts ending in June 2026. All three intend to stay, but only the one from Martorell seems to have options to sign a new contract soon.
With De Jong, everything had been agreed upon several weeks ago, but the signing was postponed while the midfielder resolved the termination of the contract with his previous agent, Ali Dursun. Once these loose ends are resolved, the '21' will sign for three more years, until June 2029.
Frenkie de Jong's release clause rises to 500 million euros
The main novelty of the Gorinchem native's new contract has to do with an adjustment to his release clause. It will now be 500 million euros, 100 'kilos' more than the amount set in his previous contract.
In addition, there will be an adjustment to the Dutch player's contract, effective next summer. In 25/26, Frenkie will maintain his net salary at 19 million per year. In principle, his emoluments will not undergo a considerable adjustment, but there will be a reduction in the bonuses that raised his benefits to 25 million net.

Barça's idea is to keep Lamine Yamal as a franchise player and, therefore, the highest paid in the squad from 26/27. This season, Lewandowski, with a net salary of 26 million, is still the player who receives the most money in the first team.
In that sense, the most likely outcome is that the Pole will leave on a free transfer next summer. De Jong also jeopardized his continuity at the end of 2023 when his agent rejected the club's first renewal offer. However, the midfielder managed to steer the negotiations back on track, knowing he is a key piece of Hansi Flick's scheme.

Barça Secures Long-Term Future of Pedri-De Jong Duo
Alongside Pedri, Frenkie has formed one of the most solid partnerships in Europe, leading Barça to win three of the four titles at stake last season. Once his problems in his right ankle were overcome, the '21' has performed at an exceptional level this 2025 and Flick considers him untouchable in his scheme.
So far in the 25/26 season, De Jong has played 643 minutes spread across 8 matches. He only missed the match against Levante due to permission and the one against Valencia as a precaution. Furthermore, in seven years, he has accumulated 267 official appearances and 6 trophies with the Barça jersey, including a pair of La Liga titles and the same number of Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cups.
The only thing missing from his record is the Champions League, the main objective for the "culés" in the 25/26 season. With Ajax, he won an Eredivisie and a cup before landing in Catalonia in the summer of 2019. Barça paid a fixed 75 million plus an extra 11 million in variables to secure his transfer.
