Barça has reportedly ruled out the signing of Denzel Dumfries this summer. The Dutchman could leave Inter Milan for just €25M, but the 'culés' do not intend to spend that much on another right-back
Demzel Dumfries could be one of the 'bargains' of the summer market 2025. The 29-year-old defender is currently one of the most in-form wing-backs/right-backs on the planet and, last season, he scored 11 goals and provided 6 assists in 47 games with Inter Milan.
Against FC Barcelona, in the Champions League 'semi-finals', he scored a couple of goals and three decisive assists for the elimination of a 'Blaugrana' team that has been pointed out as a possible destination for the Rotterdam native next season.
According to 'La Gazzetta dello Sport', Dumfries' clause drops to just 25 million euros during the first 15 days of July. The Dutchman has a contract until 2028 and has been untouchable on the right flank of the 'nerazzurri' team since his arrival in 2021, from PSV Eindhoven.
However, the player himself would have communicated to his agent, Jorge Mendes, his willingness to look for offers to change scenery in the 25/26 season, after four seasons in Milan where he has twice come close to winning the Champions League.
Dumfries' signing could be a bargain, but...
Similarly, the Italian newspaper points to Barça in the 'pole' of clubs interested in Inter's '2', but the truth is that, if it's about signing a full-back, the 'culé' board prefers to spend on a defender for the left side.
For the moment, Alejandro Balde and Gerard Martín are the owners of that position, with a clear advantage for the '3' for the starting position. However, Martín has good offers to go to England for a figure close to 15 'kilos'.
If the Catalan defender finally opts to leave, the club would take advantage of the amount of his transfer to go for Alejandro Grimaldo. The former 'culé' youth player is expected to leave Bayer Leverkusen and his departure price is around €15M.
In addition, as far as the right side is concerned, the club is very happy with the options available in the squad, even when Héctor Fort is also on the departure ramp this summer due to the lack of opportunities with Hansi Flick's team.

In that sense, Barça's bet is clear: although it would be ideal to sign a right-back, Jules Koundé's starting position is not in doubt. The Frenchman has a contract until 2027 and his renewal will be one of the first folders to be resolved in the first months of the coming year.
Since before the arrival of Hansi Flick, the '23' had already established himself as one of the best right-backs on the planet, a status he consolidated in the last European Championship. In the 24/25 season, Koundé scored 4 goals and provided 8 assists in 53 games the previous season, despite missing the last month of the season due to injury.
As things stand, the signing of Denzel Dumfries, despite being a tempting alternative, is ruled out for Barça this year. Unless there is a surprise, Eric García will be in charge of covering the right flank when Jules needs rest, as happened during his absence in the final stretch of the 24/25 season.
