Manchester City want to renew the contract of their biggest star, Erling Haaland, however, the Norwegian striker has set a condition that would benefit both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid

Calendar of FC Barcelona

Erling Haaland does not want to give up control of his future. The Norwegian attacker is willing to renew his contract with Manchester City beyond 2027, but he has a clear condition to be able to do so and that is to be able to secure an exit route in case he wants to change teams in the future, which would have stopped the talks between both parties.

For weeks, his agent, Rafaela Pimienta, and the leaders of the English team have held several meetings, but now things have become somewhat tense. City want to retain the Norwegian long-term and reward him for everything he has given them since his arrival in 2022, being an important piece in the success of the team, including their first Champions League title.

Therefore, if they manage to reach an agreement, he will become the highest-paid player in the squad with 24 million euros per season. Haaland is on his way to breaking all possible records in England by scoring more than 90 goals in just over 100 games, so it is clear that the Mancunians are looking to ensure his permanence, although they would not be at all happy with his new requirement, which would bring him closer to clubs such as FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Haaland asks for a termination clause in his contract

At 24 years old, Haaland has a great future ahead of him and he already has experience negotiating contracts with termination clauses, something he already experienced at Borussia Dortmund. Precisely this type of clause was what allowed him to leave for City. Now he wants to repeat the formula with the team managed by Pep Guardiola and there is no doubt that his ambition could lead him to sign for one of the best clubs in Spain. The question is whether it will be Barcelona or Real Madrid.

For years, both have been interested in the player and would have the best chance of signing him in the summer transfer market of 2025. Let's remember that Guardiola has not yet extended his commitment to the English club, so his possible departure could accelerate Haaland's. In the case of Barça, the board headed by Joan Laporta is already looking for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski in attack and the player's arrival in Barcelona would be key to his future aspirations.

For his part, the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, would have the dream of seeing the Norwegian playing with Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius at the Santiago Bernabéu. Another club that could get into the race is PSG, who lost their main reference in attack this summer. Therefore, we will have to wait to see if City accepts the condition of their player and, if they do, it is possible that this clause will not fall below 100 million euros, which would condition the interest of many clubs. Whatever the case, everything seems to indicate that Haaland will not be a player who will remain playing in the Premier League for much longer.
