Something that definitively very rarely happens could take place in the summer transfer window that begins on July 1st. The scenario suggests that Espanyol could lend FC Barcelona a hand, financially speaking, thanks to the interest that has emerged from the 'Pericos' in Mika Mármol.

Following the signing of Joan Garcia by Barça, coming precisely from Espanyol for 25 million euros plus the CPI (Consumer Price Index), which is around 1.34 million. Now, the latest rumors suggest that the Culé team could profit from a potential operation related to the centre-back (with a Blaugrana past) and the 'Periquito' club.

Although Espanyol isn't the only team interested in Mármol, in Italy, they also see the youngster as a player with a great future ahead of him. The attentive Serie A clubs are reportedly Roma and Como.

The defender is currently a player for UD Las Palmas, a team recently relegated to the second division of Spanish football. In any case, the Canarian club is not willing to accept less than what his release clause demands.

Las Palmas' position is clear: Release clause or nothing for Mika Mármol

Mika Mármol's release clause is set at 10 million euros. Faced with the scenario of a possible move for the player, the club's president, Miguel Ángel Ramírez, has already made the entity's wishes clear.

"We are aware that there is interest from some club. If someone comes and pays the 10 million, because UD Las Palmas will not waive a single euro in that regard, then he will leave. But if not, Mika will play with us next season," stated Ramírez when referring to the defender.

Evidently, these statements came before the alleged interest from the 'Perico' team in Mármol was known, but it was already understood that the 23-year-old centre-back was attracting the attention of different clubs. In the 2023/24 season, Mika played 2,624 minutes in 33 matches. He also provided one assist.

Now, Espanyol must make a decision before another team gets ahead of them in a potential negotiation. Furthermore, another point to highlight is that the 'Pericos' have already signed Hugo Pérez, Marcos Fernández, Miguel Rubio, Marko Dmitrovic, and Kike García, with the intention of having a highly competitive team for the 2024/25 season.

The money Barça would receive thanks to Mika Mármol

The player left the Blaugrana team in the summer of 2022 (having arrived in the 2018/19 season) to become an FC Andorra player at no cost, although Barcelona retained 50% of a future sale and reserved a buy-back option.

In this sense, Las Palmas only owns the other 50% of the player's rights. However, if a team makes a move for Mármol and pays his 10 million euro clause, Barça would receive €5M, a figure that is nothing to be sneezed at for the Blaugrana's transfer plans.

The 'Culés' hope to close the signing of Nico Williams soon and do not rule out making a couple more signings. Therefore, every euro counts to navigate a market where Barça also anticipates several departures from its squad.
