Al-Ittihad is not giving up in its quest to sign Frenkie de Jong. Recent reports indicate a much more attractive offer from the team managed by Laurent Blanc
FC Barcelona could soon receive a new offer from Al-Ittihad for Frenkie de Jong. The latest reports suggest a figure close to 50 million euros for the player from Arkel, 5 'kilos' above his current value on Transfermarkt. Barça dreamed of a transfer around 80M€ a couple of years ago, but injuries and the poor level of the midfielder in 2024 have considerably lowered his value.
This season, the '21' has accumulated 604 minutes of action spread over 17 appearances (1 goal and 1 assist) with Hansi Flick's team. Although the German coach considers him as the first alternative to Marc Casadó, the 27-year-old player seems doomed to an alternative role for the remainder of the season. De Jong reappeared with the team in October, but has only been a starter in four matches (2 in the Copa del Rey) since then.
Frenkie de Jong and Barça, no news on his renewal
Beyond the rumors about the interest from the Arab league or other offers that may come in the coming months, it seems that the Dutchman will wait until the end of the 24-25 season to make a decision regarding his future. Discussions about his renewal are completely stalled, as the player never responded to the offer that Barça presented to him at the end of 2023 to extend his current contract.
That proposal expired, and now it is the player who must take the first step to resume negotiations, something that seems far from happening at the moment. Frenkie will enter his last year of contract in August and the club prioritizes readjusting his salary, as the 19 million euros gross that he currently earns are a problem for the blue and garnet salary cap.
