The renewal of Frenkie de Jong with FC Barcelona seems to be suffering a slight delay in its completion. However, this setback to extend the Dutchman's stay in the Catalan city is not due to the club or the midfielder, at least not directly.

According to the newspaper AS, Frenkie's renewal has been delayed due to bureaucratic problems related to the termination of his contract with his lifelong agent, Ali Dursun (HCM Sports). A process that is taking longer than expected due to the obstacles that the representative himself would be putting in place to disassociate himself from the '21'.

It is worth remembering that, in mid-June of last year, the 'bomb' related to De Jong's desire to change representatives was announced. A disappointment apparently motivated by disagreements between both parties regarding how negotiations with the azulgrana club have been handled in order to renew his contract.

It should not be overlooked that Barcelona's intention was to close Frenkie's renewal before June 30. A matter that, apparently, was feasible. Several sources claim that the Dutchman had given the 'ok' to his continuity in the team since December.

Frenkie and the culé team have smoothed over any roughness that may have remained from the past, especially due to that attempted departure in the summer of 2022, when they tried to send him to Manchester United.

But, in this 2025, the relationship is very good. Club figures, such as Joan Laporta and Deco, have shown their desire for the Dutchman to remain in the team, and De Jong himself has made clear his willingness to close the extension as soon as possible.

With this in mind, and on the premise that the player from Arkel has already overcome his physical problems in his ankle, De Jong has become a key player for Hansi Flick in the midfield. Frenkie closed the 2024/25 season with 46 appearances (2,448 minutes of play), two goals and two assists.

His continuity seems imminent, as one of the great captains and strategic assets of the club. And, why not, also thinking about the near future. At just 28 years old, he has already shown that, in full condition, he can be one of the best midfielders in the world.

A man that Barcelona cannot afford to lose, much less as the end of his current contract approaches and he could leave as a free agent. A question that, for the moment, is totally ruled out from the panorama of the culé sports management.
