The link between Ivan Perišić and Barça apparently will not come to fruition. Recently, it has been revealed that the Croatian left winger is increasingly close to extending his continuity at PSV Eindhoven.
The information was revealed by journalist Fabrizio Romano, who assured that the Split native is very close to signing a new contract with the 'Farmers'. This, after having accepted the conditions proposed by the Dutch team, which offered him a two-season contract.
The aforementioned source maintains that only small details remain to be clarified to finish signing an agreement that would definitively separate an Ivan Perišić about whom, apparently, Barcelona inquired, although without considering it a priority. Contrary to Nico Williams, an incorporation that is currently experiencing its most critical hours.
The Azulgrana team is willing to execute the clause of the Pamplona winger. However, the Basque team is doing everything possible to retain its star or, failing that, slow down the operation as much as possible.
Hansi Flick wanted Perišić as a 'low cost' option
In the midst of this back and forth, FC Barcelona has lost the option of reinforcing its offense with Perišić, a player who, according to reports, Hansi Flick liked very much as a 'low cost' alternative for the culé offensive front. The Croatian, as of June 30, could join the Catalan club as a free agent.
In addition to his affordable cost, Ivan represented an interesting profile to bring veteran status and experience to a dressing room full of young stars. The German coach already knew him well, after having managed him during his time at Bayern Munich.
Perišić offers offensive variants, since he can not only play as a left winger, but also on the right and even as an inside player on both sides. And, most importantly: he was willing to land at the club under the premise of being a more revulsive option.
The Croatian opted for continuity in the Netherlands
However, given the inaction of Barcelona and seeing that the start date of PSV's pre-season was approaching —a moment in which both the Dutch team and the player wanted to have clarity about Barcelona's interest—, Perišić has decided to accept the proposal of the current champion of the Eredivisie.
With the 'Farmers' he has just completed an important season in terms of numbers, adding 16 goals and 11 assists in 39 games. In addition, he positioned himself as one of the most important elements in Peter Bosz's starting eleven. A card that the Eindhoven club wanted to keep... and it seems that it will succeed.
