Barça is considering options with Héctor Fort and does not rule out a departure in this market. Loan or definitive sale?
FC Barcelona is still waiting to be able to channel some departures in this summer market 2025/26. With the departure of goalkeeper Iñaki Peña and midfielder Oriol Romeu on the doorstep, the Blaugrana team does not rule out being able to do business with one of the young academy players who currently play in the first team: Héctor Fort.
📌 BARCELONA DEPARTURES IN THIS SUMMER MARKET 25/26:
- Pau Víctor: sold to SC Braga for €12M.
- Álex Valle: sold to Como 1907 for €6M.
- Pablo Torre: sold to RCD Mallorca for €5M.
- Ansu Fati: loaned to AS Monaco.
- Ander Astralaga: loaned to Granada CF.
- Clement Lenglet: contract termination.
The 18-year-old Barcelona right-back has apparently become one of the players who could be part of the departure operation. At least that is what various sources have divulged, and the context in which the youth player is immersed invites us to think so.
Fort had a testimonial role at Barcelona during the 2024/25 season, adding just 710 minutes spread over a total of 21 matches, without having an impact at the level of goals or assists. He was one of the players with the fewest minutes in the course, being overshadowed by Jules Koundé, who left little room for the right-back to see action in his natural demarcation.
Fort faces great competition at Barcelona's right-back position
Beyond that, the situation of Héctor Fort, in principle, does not give the impression of being the most encouraging in sporting terms for the 2025/26 season. Koundé, already recovered from his physical setbacks, remains an undisputed starter for Hansi Flick.
And now, in the competition for the right-back position, a new name has entered the scene: Eric García, the versatile player who has shown good performance developing in that position and who is beginning to be seen as the ideal replacement for the duels in which the French defender cannot be present.
A clue from Barça? Fort, substitute in the first summer friendly
Irrefutable proof of this came at the start of the 2025/26 pre-season, on the tour that Barcelona is doing in Asia. In the first match, which took place last Sunday, July 27 against Vissel Kobe - a formality that the Blaugrana team resolved with a 3-1 win - Eric García, scorer of the match, started the first 45 minutes as a right-back.
For the second half, the player from Martorell was replaced by Jules Koundé to play the other 45, leaving Héctor Fort on the bench again. A sign of the fierce competition that can exist in that demarcation and that makes it no surprise that Barcelona is willing to dispense with the services of the Catalan this summer.
What options does the Blaugrana club have with Héctor Fort?
In the current panorama, two scenarios are visualized:
- A loan, to give continuity to his game and allow his best version to emerge.
- A transfer, in which Barcelona, as it has been doing, can enter an amount now and maintain options to take future advantage.
Will the Barcelona team end up getting rid of Héctor Fort? Only the market will tell. To begin with, the intentions are there, and considering the fact that the right-back - with a contract until 2029 - has aroused interest in several European clubs in the past, it would not be unreasonable.
However, his position was always clear: he wanted to stay at Barça. Will he maintain that same determination now that his sporting situation is complicated? It will have to be assessed.
