Héctor Fort anticipated his return to training with Barça. Despite rumors about his departure, the full-back wants to stay and fight for a place in the 25/26 season
The FC Barcelona formally begins its 2025 pre-season next Sunday, but several 'culés' players have anticipated their return to the Ciutat Esportiva this summer. In addition to Andreas Christesen, Ronald Araujo and the brand new first addition of the summer, Joan García, Héctor Fort also returned to the club's facilities on Wednesday.
The right-back arrived in Sant Joan Despí in the morning and carried out a physical work session of around an hour and a half. The '18' also shared part of his routine during the holidays on his social networks weeks ago, showing his desire to arrive in top form for the pre-season.
Although he was the defender with the fewest minutes in the squad (only Christensen played less, but the Dane spent eight months injured) in the 24/25 season (710' in 21 appearances, 5 as a starter), the youth player is confident of earning a place in the squad this summer, although Jules Koundé and Eric García will be the first alternatives for the right-back position.
Héctor Fort does not plan to listen to offers this summer, but...
In that sense, Fort does not plan to listen to offers in the summer market to leave on loan or permanently. The full-back renewed last year until 2026 and his termination clause went from 10 million euros to a high figure (probably 100 'kilos', although the board has not revealed it). In fact, the board's initial bet is to extend his contract again until 2029.
With Xavi Hernández, the Catalan was a starter in almost the entire second half of the 23/24 season, playing on the wrong side on the left flank. Héctor is a natural right-back, but he can play without problems on both sides, without as much depth as Alejandro Balde in the opponent's half, but very applied in defense.
For the moment, several teams outside of Spain (Ajax, PSV Eindhoven, Como) have sounded out his signing, but the defender has not given the go-ahead. Hansi Flick is not convinced of his role in the team, but if Gerard Martín finally leaves in the summer market and Barça does not sign another full-back, Fort will definitely stay, as there is no other available replacement for Balde.
Barça will not force Fort's departure
Beyond this situation, the club does not plan to force Héctor's departure. First, because he is a versatile defender with excellent potential. Furthermore, he is a local lad and his attitude so far has been exemplary, always willing to lend a hand when the coaching staff needs him.
If the '18' manages to take advantage of the Asian tour to convince Flick to give him more minutes next season, it is very likely that the 18-year-old defender will end up staying. Otherwise, he will have no choice but to look for a team to find the regularity that every player needs, especially when his career is just beginning.
