Bayern Munich has yet to finalize the renewal of Joshua Kimmich. The German seems inclined towards an offer from FC Barcelona or Real Madrid, which at the moment seems distant.
Joshua Kimmich seems willing to wait until the end of the 2024/25 season to define his future with Bayern Munich. The 30-year-old player’s contract ends in June and he has complete freedom to negotiate with any team since January 1. However, the Munich team is betting on his renewal, despite the uncertainty generated by the silence of a player who has recorded 10 assists in 34 matches this season with Vincent Kompany's team, as well as 1 goal.
In this regard, the Bavarian sports director, Max Eberl, assured that the club "will give a little more time" to the midfielder to "mature his idea" and understand that Bayern is the best option to continue his career. The '5' will complete a decade at the club this summer, but he seems determined to try his luck away from Germany, with LaLiga being the destination that attracts the player from Rottweil the most.
Barça and Madrid are unclear about signing Joshua Kimmich
In this sense, Kimmich seems willing to wait at least a couple more months for an approach from FC Barcelona or Real Madrid. The Catalan team was the most interested in signing him last summer, but the culé financial problems cooled the negotiations. Looking ahead to the 2025/26 season, the Catalan stance has changed thanks to the appearances of Marc Bernal and Marc Casadó.
Awaiting what happens with Frenkie de Jong, the Barça position is clear: give the Dutchman the opportunity to decide whether to renew or leave, while confidence in the academy players is total. Bernal should return in the summer, while Casadó will continue to be important for the sports project led by Hansi Flick. Additionally, the team has other market priorities to attend to, with signings for a left winger, a center forward, and possibly a left-back being the planned moves.
In the case of Real Madrid, beyond the team's injury problems, the club is leaning more towards a natural right-back for the next market, with Trent Alexander-Arnold as the first option. Furthermore, Kimmich prefers to join a team where he is counted on for the midfield, a position that the 'merengues' have covered with Tchouaméni, Camavinga, and Ceballos. The other alternative for the German international could be Manchester City, which already signed Nico González in January but needs another '5' until Rodri returns.
