Manchester City inquired about Jules Koundé, but Barça is clear: renewal in progress and no intention to sell
FC Barcelona has in Jules Koundé one of the best right-backs in the world. The Parisian, despite not being a natural right-sided marker, managed to adapt to that demarcation and become a determining piece for Hansi Flick's scheme in the 2024/25 season, adding 53 games played, with four goals and eight assists.
City were interested in Koundé: What did Barcelona say about it?
A season that has positioned him again in the orbit of great European teams, which do not rule out their options of being able to sign him in this summer market. According to journalist Fabrice Hawkins of RMC Sport, the Manchester City and another top team on the European scene inquired about the situation of the 26-year-old French defender.
However, the aforementioned source highlights that the attempt by the citizens would not have had greater significance. The reason? The Azulgrana team considers Jules Koundé one of the best players in the world in his position and, therefore, wants to continue counting on his services as a key piece of Hansi Flick's sports project.
Total optimism at Barça to close Jules' renewal
Under this premise, it should not be overlooked that Barcelona is already working to renew the former Sevilla player, with a contract at the club until June 30, 2027. The Catalan team has already held several meetings with the agent of the French international, Jonathan Kebe, to make clear Barça's desire to extend Koundé's stay in the Condal City and, of course, to specify the relevant details of the agreement.
An agreement that the Catalan team wants to close before the end of the 2025/26 summer market. But this operation is subject to the fact that the Blaugrana team can start operating under the 1:1 rule promptly and manage to resolve cases such as the registration of Joan García and, presumably, that of Marcus Rashford. Hence, once these issues and the most pressing renewals due to deadlines are resolved - such as that of Frenkie de Jong - the Catalan team will be able to meditate in depth on the case of the Frenchman.
Whatever the case, from Barcelona, after recent conversations with Jules Koundé's entourage, they are certain that the renewal, sooner or later, will come to fruition due to the existing predisposition among all parties. Ending, with this, to scare away any existing interest - whether from Manchester City or another team - in acquiring his services in this summer market.
