The Premier League insists on keeping Wesley this summer. The Brazilian full-back, in Barça's orbit, has 3 English giants after him
FC Barcelona is starting to say goodbye to their options to sign Wesley. The right-back, one of Flamengo's 'pearls', is strongly rumored in the radar of, at least, three clubs from the Premier League's so-called 'Big Six'. The 'culés', due to financial issues, have fallen behind in the negotiations for the defender.
According to the Brazilian portal 'RTI Esporte', Liverpool and Manchester City have already contacted Flamengo and the player's entourage to take him to England next season. The 21-year-old full-back has a contract until December 2028 and a release clause of 200 million euros.
Flamengo will not listen to low offers for Wesley
However, 'reds' and 'cityzens' are looking to sign him for a much lower amount, close to 40-50 'kilos'. The defender has 1 goal and 1 assist in 17 matches (1,455 minutes) this year with Flamengo and has already been called up by the Brazilian national team for the last qualifying matches in March.
In total, there are 125 official matches that, for the moment, the player from Açailândia has played with the 'rojinegra' shirt, adding 3 goals and 5 assists. Being a young full-back, with a lot of speed and the ability to project himself in attack, Barcelona has been very attentive to his projection in the Brazilian league.
However, the duration of his contract and Flamengo's economic aspirations have delayed the 'culés' in the race for his signing. Wesley has also been rumored as a possible reinforcement for Arsenal, but so far the 'gunners' have not made any formal offer.
Wesley, an impossible signing for Barça?
In any case, the Rio de Janeiro team is not willing to facilitate the departure of the right-back either. Coach Filipe Luis prioritizes having him throughout 2025, both in the Brasileirao and in the Copa Libertadores, a key factor in the negotiations.
For Barça, the Brazilian would be a luxury replacement for Jules Koundé, but the club has other market priorities to attend to and spending a high amount on a defender is not contemplated in the 'azulgrana' summer market plan. Thus, everything points to Wesley making the leap to Europe towards England, following in the footsteps of Estevao Willian (Chelsea).
